Another piece dedicated to a nuzlocke run that shall never be a comic.

I finished my Ruby nuzlocke run today. It was my most successful run ever - over the course of the whole game, I only lost 4, and three of them were in the Elite Four, and one was at the very beginning. The first one I lost was Flutter the Whismur, to a Nincada...sigh.

I played through the whole game and didn't lose a single teammember after that. And, to my delight, I caught a Zangoose! I named her Yera. I love Zangoose and always wanted to try training one, and I finally had the chance! And man, do they ROCK. I loved Yera to death, she was so tough.

I went to the Elite Four with Marlin the timid Swampert, Luna the brave Kadabra, Yera the careful Zangoose, Rover the hardy Linoone, Turner the serious Bellossom, and Kumi the naughty Mightyena, my first catch.

Yera took on the E4 almost entirely on her own. A few turns at the beginning of each battle, using Swords Dance, and then she'd Slash OHKO every Pokemon. We went through the whole E4 without a hitch. Then we fought Steven, and Yera took out all his Pokemon, until his Metagross.

A lucky crit Meteor Mash put the final page in Yera's story.

Sigh...gosh I loved that Zangoose...they're officially one of my favorites ever now. So awesome.

I sent out Kumi, my first catch, but she wasn't strong enough...I kept healing her, biding time, but it was too little too late. Meteor Mash sometimes raises Attack, and finally that Metagross was a little too strong, and I said goodbye to Kumi as well. She had a good run...

And then I sent out Turner, because of his high defense.

And it used Hyper Beam.

It was a noble sacrifice...a one-hit-KO...but then Marlin was able to take out the Metagross with Earthquake while it was recharging.

So in the end, I beat my Ruby run, but at a sad cost. So I wanted to whip up a quick little memorial painting for Yera, because she was so hardcore.

Something, though...Luna, my Kadabra...I kept expecting her to die, through the whole run. Kadabra and Alakazam always seem to die in nuzlockes. My Pearl version Kadabra, Gregry...Roy, from Terrin's Heartgold run...James, from Petty's Leafgreen run... that line is so poorly defensed. So I was very careful training Luna, but I kept expecting her to die...I had sort of resigned myself to it. And since she's Brave nature, I imagined she had resigned herself to it too, in that brave sort of way.

But she made it through to the end. She's one of few, if any, Kadabra to survive the Nuzlocke. So I'm proud of her. And Marlin, the scaredy cat Mudkip, came so far...and Rover, who was just always there, dedicated in bringing me Rare Candies.

It was a good run. Rest in peace, my friends.
