This is one of (whistle, (actually, I'm unable to whistle), a large amount of posts about some of the special items I've thought up for of breath of the wild 2.

A rusted clockwork beetle from the era of Skyward Sword.

What could've been a simple tool, that probably was used in activating mechanisms and overriding traps. And was used of those who created the shrines and ancient mechanisms that existed in the era of Hylia.

Although it's referred to as the clockwork mechanical bug, most of the components from ancient guardians are simply too big to be used in restoring this piece of equipment.
So they need to be constructed of lightweight Amber, but an ancient guarding core is used to power it.
And the devices power conduits are created from electric rhino beetles, while installing Octo balloons will allow this mechanism to lift objects that are far heavier than what this mechanism is capable of transporting in the air.

Despite its damage, this clockwork's bug can travel a short distance from its user, but will eventually explode and be in usable for a short period of time.
