Description
The London Zoological Gardens were bustling with wealthy patrons and spectators. Many crowded around the exhibit of the endangered and quite-apathetic Amazonian Giant Tortoise. The lumbering reptiles, one male and one female, shirked away from the numerous camera flashes and the distracting clamor of human audience.
Since first being introduced to the London Zoo, these two tortoises had never found a romantic connection, and if either passed without mating with their partner, the species might go extinct.
To solve this, the brilliant inventors Amelia Duchagne and Jennifer Whitelock worked together to design an airborne compound that would greatly amplify the romantic feelings of the subject.
"Cupid's Arrow!" Dr. Whitelock announced to the oos and ahs of the crowd before them. "Though its scientific name became too long to bother with," Dr. Duchagne chimed in with an embarrassed smile as the spectators chuckled.
"Under its spell," Dr. Whitelock continued, "Henry and Matilda here," the crowd's attention was directed back to the carefree tortoises, "will find the spark that's been missing in their relationship, and their species will be saved!" A few audience members let out small cheers while the cameramen continued to capture the scene of the two lovely scientists as they prepared their invention.
"Before we release the gas, we ask that anyone with a weak constitution towards turtle relations to please leave the scene as this is about to get very steamy," Dr. Duchagne explained as she rang a small bell to signal her assistant, Charles Wraydon, who was beneath the exhibit, ready to release a small burst of gas on the two unromantic reptiles.
"We also as that anyone who is excited by turtle pornography to also leave the area, as this is neither the time nor the place," Dr. Whitelock added in, completely seriously despite the rousing laughter she received from the audience. Her own assistant, Elizabeth Smith, was down below as well, assisting Mr. Wraydon with the experiment.
"I wonder what's taking so long?" Dr. Whitelock asked her colleague after a few minutes. They were sure their assistants were doing their part, having heard the rush and pop of pipes and gases beneath their stage, but nothing could be seen emerging from the vents.
"It should be coming out of the pipes by now," Dr. Duchagne replied. Indeed, they both knew the appearance of the dense clouds of lovely smoke well, having accidentally released the chemicals in their experiments while working together.
Very closely together, as both doctors blushed when they each remembered their warm encounters under the spell of their invention. Earlier versions of the gas were far more... potent than the current batch, and they briefly recalled each failed test as they inhaled the compound, before they both threw caution, and their clothing, to the wind before descending into a writhing fusion of flesh on the laboratory floor.
"Ahem," Dr. Duchagne cleared her throat, trying to forget the memories of Dr. Whitelock's skilled hands at work on her delicates. "Mr. Wraydon!" She leaned over the balcony and shouted down to the cellar beneath her. "Charles! Is everything alright down there?"
"Elizabeth!" Dr. Whitelock joined her in trying to get their assistants' attention. Something was amiss.
Meanwhile, Mr. Wraydon and Ms. Smith found themselves struggling to remember their current duty as they locked lips and fumbled with the buttons and straps of each other's clothing. A crack in the pipes went unseen during the earlier inspection, and now the gas was pouring not into the exhibit, but back into the pump room. The two assistants had been struck by Cupid's Arrow.
Hearing their mistresses calling to them from above, they momentarily took their attention off of each other, but it was too little too late as they instantly drew back into their steamy embrace. Unconsciously, Mr. Wraydon turned the ventilation crank more, thinking that was what Dr. Duchagne was calling for, and the room filled with even more of the romantic gas.
Even worse, the room's vents were open on their own, and soon the deviant compound would spread into the air of the zoo. The giant tortoises would indeed get a whiff of the gas that could save their species, but not until every human watching over them was struck by Cupid's Arrow first, and then the real fun would begin.

So this is PrinceBuffoon 's character, Charles Wraydon, the assistant of Dr. Amelia Duchagne, and GoldBitter 's character Elizabeth Smith, the assistant of Dr. Jennifer Whitelock. Ever since their collaboration, The Garment Game, I got it in my head to ship these two characters, and I figured it'd be good to draw for Valentine's Day. I recommend checking out both of the writers' stories, especially their collaboration, because they're both great writers who put a lot of passions and fun into their work. This was a lot of fun to draw, even though there's no evidence that there's anything between them. But hey, sometimes the ships built from the most incompatible parts sail the best.
Happy Valentines Day!

I hope this isn't the last time we see Cupid's Arrow, maybe next time Dr. Hutchins will be nearby.

I forget about Lavender way too often. She's a great character. Would love to see Cupid's Arrow make a reappearance in one of their stories.

Beautiful work, sir! I cannot speak for Ms. Smith, but Mr. Wraydon looks fantastic! The sideburns are a wonderful touch, and I also like his manly chin and build. I realize this work is a little old by now, but upon my return I just found myself forced to stop by with a comment!
Excellent stuff!

Thank you very much! Glad you like it. Despite being a few months old, I still think it looks pretty good compared to even my newer stuff.

This is fantastic! I love how Charles and Elizabeth look in your style and you've done a great job with Miss Smith's outfit and appearance, the slightly Goth makeup is perfect And I think I might make this her official maid's uniform from now on!
I love Charles' sideburns!
The short story is great too. I always enjoy watching Duchange and Whitelock working together...the potential for embarrassing disaster is always exponentially higher! As for Charles and Elizabeth, I think it's been hinted that they 'like' one another but neither of them has ever acted on it. So feel free to ship them as much as you'd like!

Thank you! Glad it came out alright. Her uniform is kind of a hodge-podge of anything I could find by searching "steampunk maid" on here. I didn't mean for Elizabeth to look so in-control when I started, but then I figured I could just excuse that with the effects of the gas in the story.
After I drew the scene, I had now idea what I was doing with their poses, so I made up the scenario on the fly, and I think it works well enough. I felt like something like saving a species from extinction would make sense for Amelia and Jennifer to work together. As you say, their combined misfortune is incredible! I'm glad there's some precedent for this, then. Ship sailed!

Sexy picture and story! I love Ms. Smith's hair and her coy, mischievous smile and slight blush is terrific! Mr. Wraydon's outfit is pretty awesome and wow that guy is buff! The lipstick marks leading down his neck... WOW.
I like the pairing between these two. It seems quite natural especially when you factor in the Cupid's Arrow. Also, props for Goldbitter and Prince Buffoon for creating these two amazing characters. My favorite thing about them, besides their unquestioning loyalty to their respective bosses, is the fact that Amelia and Elizabeth both respect and appreciate their assistants. It makes them much more likable characters and the stories a lot more fun and lighthearted.

Thanks! These two were fun to draw, even through all the mistakes. Hopefully I covered those up well enough. I was trying to go along with the descriptions they gave me as closely as possible, but I ultimately just sided with wherever my pencil decided to put its lines, so Smith became much thinner than I intended, and Wraydon became much more masculine-looking than I expected he'd turn out. The lipstick thing was ripped off from this: www.deviantart.com/art/Someone…
I fully support this pairing if either of them decide to work with it in the future, even in little snippets of the two sneaking behind the scenes for some close encounters while their scatterbrained employers are busy with their experiments. Bitter and Buffoon deserve all of the props for making such fun and exciting characters.

I... still have to read "The Garment Game" XD. I think it's one of those things that I really intend to read... but then keep forgetting about, so it's actually quite nice to have reminders like this. Let's see how long it takes me to get around to it, though, all things considered :-p.
Regardless, this is cute.
... And as for shipping characters with nothing between them, I REFUSE to believe such a concept even exists. ANY two fictional characters will ALWAYS have both romantic and sexual feelings between them, even if they should be completely incompatible. And if it happens to seem like an unlikely couple... then that only makes it all the better.
CRACK SHIPPING FTW!!!

I'm amazed I was able to tame my short attention span enough to get through it when I did, but it was worth it. It was fun reading PB and Bitter bouncing ideas off of one another, and the end result was a very fun story. Try and get to it next time you find yourself in a steampunk mood.
Thank you! It was very fun to draw. I don't ship anything very often, but I liked the rare interactions these two had in the story, and their similar positions and mannerisms made me keen on the idea of them together.
