Description
Finally got these designs done, and I must say I rather like them. Here are the Oathbreakers, Chaos Eldar of Nurgle and Isha. Alive and unliving, pure and tainted, sick with countless maladies and cured of all ailments – they are beings that should not be, and yet they are, as is the will of the twisted union between the Goddess of Fertility and the Plaguefather.Oathbreakers get their name from the Fall, over ten thousand years ago. When the Eldar Empire collapsed and the Eye of Terror was formed, the foul powers of Chaos warred within wars, and the ancestors of the Oathbreaker Eldar, most likely dedicated worshippers of Isha, sold their souls to Nurgle, god of plagues, pestilence, and despair, in order to escape the inevitable torment of their souls once consumed by She Who Thirsts. It is unknown by now what actually transpired at the time, but some legends say the Oathbreakers were how Nurgle discovered Isha, and rescued her from Slaanesh's clutches, enslaving her in his daemonic garden ever since. Other legends tell that the Oathbreakers were protected by Isha from Slaanesh, and when Nurgle assailed the Prince of Pleasure, the Oathbreakers were the brokers of Isha's freedom from Slaanesh – regardless, and if they had anything to do with the event at all, the Oathbreakers have served Nurgle and Isha together ever since.
Slaanesh is credited with their name, calling them Oathbreakers as the first Eldar to find a way to escape the Thirst of the dark god, in this case by selling their souls to another in the form of Nurgle. Over time, other Eldar found their own escapes, and the Oathbreakers became an isolated people, serving Nurgle and his ever-growing cults for thousands of years since. They've changed a lot since then, and are among Nurgle's most unorthodox servants, being blessed by Isha's splendid gifts just as they are tainted by Nurgle's numberless poxes and corruptions. This duality makes them a bit screw-loose at times, but they remain some of the most intelligent, resourceful, and manipulative of Nurgle cultists.
Oathbreakers are also the heaviest and manliest of Eldar, wearing heavy armor enchanted by Warp sorcery. They have proven as capable as any Chaos Space Marine serving under the Plaguefather, and many have served as powerful Chaos champions and lords. They have a unique psyker situation, usually related to Tzeentch preying on and tempting them with sorcery. Oathbreakers are stunted from the Warp almost to the same extent as their Dark Eldar cousins, and a select few every so often are selected to be sacrificed to Nurgle and Isha, to be blessed as Chaos Psykers. The Headless are born from this ceremony, their heads cut off as part of a demented ritual to divide them between Materium and Immaterium, and grant them power over both. The Headless are powerful among psykers, but unstable and erratic. Their heads still function apart from their bodies, and their part-connection-part-disconnection from reality makes them almost like partial blanks or untouchables – anathema to even their fellow Oathbreakers, more alien and eldritch than even the strangest Eldar.
Pictured on the left is a standard male Oathbreaker, and on the right is a female Headless. Much of their design was ripped off from Pathfinder, and I don't apologize for it, because I think they look badass. Oathbreakers aren't very numerous, but they have a hand in many things across the entire galaxy. A small number of them work alongside the Outcaste Chosen in the Gilranth Sector, so expect to see more of them in the future.

By the look of them I would use a combination of Vampire Counts, High and Dark Elves bodies from the Fantasy line together with weapons and equipment from the Eldar, Dark Eldar, Chaos Marines and Skavens; and then paint it all in Nurgle colours.

(Hmmm, I rather like these guys. Nurgle is my favorite of the Chaos Gods, so that only stands to reason. However I hate and despise the Eldar with a passion... still, these aren't exactly the typical Eldar. ... A very different lot indeed considering some can walk around without their heads. Mainly I like the highly mystical look of them... they look OLD, more like ancient knights than the sleek and modern Eldar. I envision small cabals of them performing rituals and summoning the powers of Nurgle more than I actually see them fighting.
I also like the idea of dichotomy, creatures that exist in a state of constant opposite extremes. No wonder some of them lose their heads. In short, I'm intrigued by the idea and find them interesting to envision. Much coolness.)

Thank you very much! They were a lot of fun to draw, and I'm rather proud of how they came out. And you picture them exactly as I hoped. They don't really fight with the same presence of CSM or cultists, and operate more behind the scenes if they can help it.

(You are most welcome, and excellent! I like picturing things right. And apparently headless Nurgle serving Eldar. Who knew?)

"God dammit space elves, get out of my plague father soup!"
-My words when I heard "Selling souls to Nurgle"
In actuality I find this a lot more hopeful, I like it when Warhammer writers make a somewhat nice situation from the fluff, its impressive that you made The freaking Fall hopeful too. The headless looks...Angry. Or bitter at least and I don't really think Nurgles followers are like that. I imagine them being like demented children, they don't are clueless to this pain and torment they cause. Just a personal pet peeve so not really saying the art is bad, which its not! I enjoy the design of the Oathbreakers and their faint Eldar + Knight thing they've got going on. Well done.

Thanks a lot! As for the expression, her lips are sewn shut, and I didn't consider making her smile. If I write them, they are an oftentimes jovial people, but I won't limit them to it.

Indeed. And yeah I noticed her sewn lips. Would be a bit funny if she actually smiled.
