Description This is an entry for a Wings of Fire contest having to do with creating a Wings of Fire themed religion based off of a given theme. I got moon/night, so this is what I came up with:

Harmonia is the name of the religion.

No one knows what the backside of Lunaris looks like, although some dragons have claimed to see it. They’ve claimed it was dark, reflecting Nox’s swirling skies of night. Some philosophers have theorized that since Lunaris reflects Nox’s side, that behind the veil of unending pitch black, there is light. From this had stemmed the belief that dragons, after dying, are sent to Lux, the perfect place for all dragons to stay. Dragons however that are unable to make it to Lux are sent to Umbra, Lunaris’ dark side of horrors.

Dragons believe that Lunaris has the power to know and see all, and looks down upon those hatched under her rays in favor, bestowing her gift of mindreading and foresight onto the NightWing dragonets. Nox, instead of bestowing magical powers, gave the NightWings powers of survival in the night with protection. Her sky matches the wings of the NightWings, helping them to camouflage in the darkness’s safety. Because of this, NightWings celebrate Harmonia mainly, but other tribes do as well just not as much.

Backstory:

Lunaris and Nox were sisters that hatched from the same nest. Lunaris shone brighter than Nox, glowing with powers from The Light. Nox envied Lunaris as her heart darkened, it reflecting her outer appearance. Nox leaped through the shadows cast from Lunaris to steal her power for her own and become the sole powerful dragon. Nox lashed at Lunaris more and more, causing Lunaris to shrink into the darkness of Nox’s hatred and jealousy, until Lunaris ceased to exist. For a moment, Nox was the only one, her night haven’t engulfed the moon. To Nox’s disbelief and anger, Lunaris became new, reborn, and fought back against Nox as she waxed back.

However, even though Lunaris gained the power from the stars to rebirth, a part of her was missing. When Nox and Lunaris had collided, light and shadow mixed, leaving a dark gash in Lunaris’ backside full of hatred and ashes, while Nox had been filled with light, which shone through her many scars that came from the battles between the two sisters.

Every month, Nox attempted to take Lunaris’ power once and for all, but Lunaris kept coming back, in an endless cycle. Lunaris earned craters from being punched by Nox’s battle damaged starry talons. Nox’s form had been shattered from the first fight. She was not visible in the way Lunaris was, but was instead scattered about, the night sky itself surrounding the bright Lunaris.

Some dragons believe in only Lunaris, or choose to. Some see Nox as the devil and Lunaris as their sole savior. Some dragons believe that Nox was just misunderstood and that she deserves an equal share of power, and that her power was actually good. Some believe Nox doesn’t exist anymore, while others believe Nox just became a part of everything. Despite the differences, all of them believe that during the first battle, when their sides had rubbed off on each other, they became equal. Lunaris’ light shone through Nox, causing her to become less hateful. Yet with this, the dark side of Lunaris caused her to fight back, seeking vengeance for the half brightness stripped away from her.

The dragons celebrate with a Half Moon festival every half moon, when both Nox and Lunaris are equal in power. It is the time when they form a truce, and meet together in perfect harmony of dark and light.

Lux:

Dragons who go to Lux after they die are pleased to meet a land of lit with unconditional joy. Their souls are met with peace as they are able to settle around with others during the day. When night comes, cracks spill from out of Nox’s wounds, allowing the spirits to shine through the sky and live through any living creature they wish throughout the night. They are unable to control actions except for the tiniest things, such as making a mouse want to do a certain action with hard work and patience to learn how. By doing so, they are able to, if experienced enough, send omens to the living. They are able to experience life without cause and effect made by their decisions.

Dragons believe that with each new ethereal bright gash added into Nox’s scales of night, a good dragon dies. The brighter the star, the better the dragon was while alive.

Sometimes a dragon can escape. This happens rarely when a star dies, trapping them. If they were out living as a creature during that time, then they are stuck wandering the world forever as a spirit. If it was day when it happened, then they will be reborn.

Umbra:

Dragons go here when they have done actions were evil enough to have lost their light. In their ghost form, they appear as dark shadows depending on how bad they are. All of them have something in common: they are not able to emit light or goodness. They are sent to Umbra to sleep forever, although some have figured out how to fight this. Through their sleep, they are able to contact dragons of the waking world and give them nightmares full of horrors. They can manipulate the dragons and cause them to have ill will to others. Ghosts are unable to control them, but indirectly able to control their mind through persuasiveness if they’re adept enough.
