What's funny is that in my fanfiction sequel series to SATam. At the end, it wasn't Sally who left Tails, but Tails, as well as Sonic, who left Sally. That was done so I could have a build up to what happens later in the timeline with Sonic and Tails.

Sega pulled some legal voodoo after the Penders stuff and owns the remaining Archie cast, and Ian Flynn said the idea of using them in the IDW comic hasn't been removed from the table so hope springs eternal.

Indeed. It's been said they won't appear in 2018, but the door's still open. That means they won't appear during the first year of the IDW Comics (possibly so IDW can prove to Sega they won't screw up like Archie did with the Penders incident), and after 2018, there's a good chance of them appearing.

Some of my first exposure to Sonic was old SatAM VHS tapes so I'd be said to see all those characters go.

The first cartoons I've watch was AOSTH then it was the Satam series which I fell in love with.
