Description
The Process:(1) Primed the wooden bookmarks with a basic sunset color. I mixed transparent gesso with acrylics. The result was like a sunset tint but with the wood grain still showing through.
(2) Created a bookmark design; a basic pencil drawing with a silhouette of a crow and some tree branches to scale on regular copy paper.
(3) Rubbed the back of the drawing with a graphite stick. Placed the design over the bookmark with the carbon side down. Used a ballpoint pen to trace over the original drawing, pressing down firmly but not forcefully, to repeatedly make carbon copy transfers onto the bookmarks. Made 10 copies by hand.
(4) Using an ink brush pen, I filled in the silhouette with black India ink.
(5) Added the knotted twine rope.
(6) Ready to be sealed with matte acrylic finish.
Over the past year, we have been feeding a crow and his buddies who regularly visit our yard and often wake us up with morning greetings. “Caw!” He is like a pet now. He recognizes us and sometimes talks with us in a back and forth exchange. I am not fluent in Crow language, so hopefully he wasn’t offended by my improvised mimicry. 😐 Anyway, so this bookmark design is in honor of our pet crow. Crows are very intelligent creatures.
