The orange hues of autumn remind me of my childhood. These days, I’d stay inside with my mother and she’d keep me in her warm embrace, away from any danger. Now, the memory of her face is long faded from my mind, but autumn still brings me a tranquility I can’t shake off. It’s just the way that leaves die in the hands of cold, and the way they fall when they’re defeated. Or maybe it’s the way the sky bathes in the sun’s rays, staining the clouds with splatters of reds and pinks and yellows.
Or… maybe it isn’t autumn. Maybe it isn’t the leaves falling. Maybe it’s the way they crunch when you’re walking to me and you step on them. Maybe it isn’t the clouds, but the way they reflect on your storm-like eyes. Maybe it’s you, and the way you smile and the way you smell and the way you don’t make me forget about my problems but make me want to face them instead. Maybe it’s the way you make me feel understood, or just the things you say or the way you bounce when you walk. Either way, I wouldn’t know. I just know that you seem happy, and it’s awfully contagious.
