Aaaactually I had (human) Smoke in there originally, but the problem was that it looked more interesting with 3 characters than 4. Also Smoke and Reptile had the same pose (in MK2, which was what I was basing it on), and I didn't really want to end up with mirrored, palette-shifted versions of the same dude... though it would've been entirely accurate!

you're right about the accuracy the MK ninjas beyond 2 were basically palette shifted chars of the same dude, but I meant the robot versions, those were kinda cool, and prolly the only robot chars in a fighting game since then (if you exclude gunjack) but really cool chibis here
