Oh, I think i may have found out why :\ the background is to dark and not white, so the color gets into it.

Omg, I've used both photoshop and gimp on 3 different tutorials like this and followed the directions perfectly but it wont work If i set it to normal, a normal rainbow pops up, but if i set it to color than nothing happens.

Your issue: You're using the gradient on a transparent layer.
You need to use the gradient on the layer that isn't transparent. (layer name: Background)

ohhh, wait i figured it out of the version of photoshop i have (7) i have to set the layer to screen.... (but it will only work if the lineart layer and the background layer are separate (if anyone doesnt know how to separate them here is an awesome website [link]

yeah. i finaly worked it out! ^^ thankyou so much! i was just doing it on an artwork with no back ground so i tried it on one that did have one and it worked ^^
