Having a mare around for the first time in forever is a bit strange for Lux. Especially one such as Ileana. She's constantly flirting with the two boys. She enjoys teasing them, though Lux had learned that she's also playful, and bold. She isn't afraid to let them know when they do something she doesn't like or cross one of her lines.
The more they interact and get to know each other, Lux can't help but find himself quickly drawn in by everything about her. From the beautiful golden glow of her coat in the sunlight to her deep oasis irises to her rich velvety voice, Lux had fallen right over his own hooves for her.
And although Zeke also shows his interest in her, and often brawls with Lux, he isn't entirely as entranced as Lux is. It comes as a surprise to Lux, considering how much Zeke always talks about mares and how much of a catch he is, but Lux isn't about to complain.
And with it being just the three of them, it doesn't feel like such a responsibility on Lux's shoulders. They all feel more like companions, or dare he say it, a family over an actual herd. They all joke around together, and they all share the burden of leading together. No one is more important than the other.
So they travel like this for a while, just the three of them. Through the winter, and before Lux knows it they're already at the end of spring, bordering on the edge of summer. They hadn't quite made it as far as he'd have liked, though, at this point, he's actually surprisingly okay with that.
He stands at the shore of a lake, the crystal blue water sparkling brightly in the sunlight. The towering peaks of the mountains curl all around them in the valley. On the other side is a forest, the tall pine trees seeming to stretch up and scrape the empty blue sky above. The sun sits just above the pointy tips of the trees, casting lazy shadows over the opposite shore of the lake across from Lux.
Ileana stands in the lake, a little further out. The water lapses gently at her chest, her legs completely submerged under the water as she drinks. Zeke also stands in the water, though he's closer to the shore and has only gotten his hooves wet. He's also drinking water, and rummaging through the nearby vegetation.
Lux can't help but smile to himself as he watches. There's a calmness nested deep in his heart. He's known these horses for only a few months, but he knows that should danger bear its ugly head, he can trust his whole life with Ileana and Zeke.
And there's nothing he would ever change about that fact.
