Thank you very much, the key is not very special and the book is an old bible I think.

Does the book Hold the key?
When I was a child & first became interested in Esoteric Lore, I had this idea, a dream if you will, that if I searched backstreet secondhand bookshops (y'know : the ones that are stacked to the ceiling with a chaotic jumble of old volumes in a labyrinth of tiny rooms where the dust dances like tiny faeries in the autumn sunbeams that stream thru' cobwebbed windows; and the proprieter potters about in the manner of an eccentric proffessor, or sits in a corner smoking a pipe like a twinkly eyed old wizard) that maybe, just maybe, I would find a rare & forgotten tome that would reveal to me The Mysteries of Life, the Universe and, well...Everything.
If only the quest for wisdom was that simple
However, your photo - so simple & yet so intricate - evokes for me of that dream, that hope, that sense of mystery...if you see what I mean.
From a technical point of view it is (as always with your work) of exquisite quality *I'm jealous!* and beautifuly lit (by candlelight eh?!) in a way which brings put the intricate detail of the books cover and the keys ornamentation. This lighting and the sepia-ish tone help to enhance the archaic atmosphere. Sepia-ish? does that word exist or have I just made it up...oh well WTF you know what I mean! Somehow (presumably due to the lighting?) both objects look as if they are made from the same material - some kind of slightly tarnished metal.
With reference to the aforementioned archaic atmosphere : the only thing that let's this picture down a bit is the surface the objects are on, which looks like it's made of some kind of modern wood veneer. A course grained old wooden table would have worked better mayhaps.
Non-the-less, a lovely image.

I do not know.
I have always liked the old bookshop scenario, the description that you give is so wonderful I think, I would love to find the perfect bookshop looking like that.
Thank you so much for liking it so much. It is candle light indeed (with the saturation lowered a little bit to make it sepia-ish
)
I agree about the surface, realised it too late, but well, it works, but old oak would have been perfect.

Talons of demons rake deep into one's soul - if it is blood I must offer up to them to make them go - then blood do I offer up to them this day - take it all - leave me empty - in this well of a grave - we debate what is worse heaven or hell - but to be caught in between is worst of all - who can hear the screams of an empty soul?

I like the texture from the book and key, but I think that a warming filter might look nice (my opinion)
