Ever since I was little, I have been able to see the unseen; dead things and whatnot. And ever since I was little, I have been considered an outsider to all that I have known.

"Fear not what is unseen for fear will do far worse than the unseen."

This is my favorite quote. I can’t recall where I first heard it or where it came from but it has a place in my heart. I can recall, though, the first time I saw the undead. I was of the age of seven years. I had gotten separated from my mother at the market place and I was standing by myself by a fruit stand. A woman walked up to me, as if she knew I was lost and took my hand. I looked up at her in fright but she smiled not physically but in her eyes. I knew immediately that I could trust this woman. I smiled back at her. She led me through the crowd of people. After leading me for a few minutes, I heard my mother’s voice calling for me. My hand slipped from the lady’s as I ran towards my frightened mother. She hugged me and then asked me where I had been. I told her that a lady had shown me the way back to her and I pointed to her but my mother couldn’t see her. The whole walk home, that day, I began to contemplate why I could see her but my mother could not.

I have a curse, at least that is what everyone else called it. So I, ever since I was first shunned, have kept my curse to myself. But it is not something I can easily hide within myself. I cannot make myself not see the spirits for they are everywhere. My vision is something I cannot shut off by simply flicking a switch in my mind. I have no control over it and it is ever continuing. But I do not mind. I like being different, as long as no one knows.

But keeping it to myself was something I was not successful at. It separated me from everything I loved and who, so I thought, loved me back.
