"At one foot and seven inches, Matches doesn't look very dangerous...at first. Most dragons of his particular species don't tend to; in fact, they're pretty adorable. But I learned a long time ago that size, when it comes to dragons, is irrelevant. You rub one the wrong way, and they are just as capable as making your day as miserable as possible as the next, regardless of how big—or in this case, small—they are. And Vandræðagemsi (I call them Vandra for short, but they're also referred to as fae dragons) are no different. Much like their counterparts that they often affiliate themselves with, they're tricky, mischievous, troublesome creatures who love to mess with any passerby in their domain. Their outwardly innocent appearance is often times a deception to hide whatever devious antics they have planned, and while they can't exactly lie, you can't fully trust them either, and definitely can't keep your eye off them for too long.'

"As mentioned above, fae dragons don't have a specific elemental affiliation, as with most species within the western dragon class. In Matches' case, he is clearly of the Aether category with his coloration and the little sparks of lightning he can shoot off, which is kind of reminiscent of Ryder's own magical energy. Speaking of which, he's become Ryder's "pet" of sorts. I put that in quotes because obviously, a dragon is a sentient creature, and frankly it'd be rude of me to label him as a pet, but what with his demeanor around Ryder, it's hard to tell at times.'

"The more proper term is "adopted son", I suppose; Ryder found his egg during one of our missions together, and not finding his flock nor his parents anywhere, we decided to keep him with us until such time we did find his folks before having to leave. As luck would have it, however, the egg hatched before then, and since dragon hatchlings imprint on the first thing they see...well, I think you know where I'm getting it. Because of that, we didn't have much choice but to bring him back with us. John wasn't very happy about it, which I don't blame him for, seeing how he's already met Teighenth, so he knows what a dragon can do, even a little one. That only got compounded when we had to stop a fire that had started in the house, because Matches had gotten into some of John's cigarettes, and during his playing with them lit one on accident with his electricity.'

"Since then, Ryder has made an effort to keep tabs on and keep him from causing too much trouble, but in the end, she's too fond of him to really be strict. Likewise, Matches still very much views her as a mother, even though now he's already aware that she's not his true one, and thus when he's not off doing his own thing, one can find him either wrapped up on Ryder's shoulders, snuggled against her side, or curled up in her lap like a cat. Those are the safe hours I don't have to worry about his shenanigans. Any other time...it seems I've been missing a lot of books lately...'

Here's another redesign that has been on the table for a while, but I was kind of holding off on it until now! I won't lie, the last time I drew Matches, I wasn't very happy with the result, mainly because I was sick and therefore it ended up being rushed so that I could sleep. Now that Ryder has gotten her redesign, however, it gave me the perfect excuse to do Matches'. Now he looks more how I envisaged him, and I am way happier with the result!
