Just because it isn't an anime doesn't mean people can't draw it in anime-style... It's their own artwork, they could make Zim 6"5 and ripped if they so choose to, and they could make him chibi just as easily. If we only drew characters the way they were originally created, that would be mind-blowingly boring, and uncreative. Art has no limits.

While the bulk of your comment was incoherent, it seems you have a problem with young, tween-to-teenaged kids posting IZ fanart on the internet (seeing that is the majority of IZ fans) because they have not gone to an Art College and studied manga in-depth, and thus their definition of manga style is not perfect. "This profession" is an internet website where anyone can post what they choose, for no money at all. Hardly a profession. So get off their backs for being amateurs. They don't give a rat's ass anyway. They draw for fun. Get over it.

First of all that is NOT my whole reply and if you read AND (this is an important part)try to understand the rest of it too, you'll see my problem is NOT that fangirl's draw invader zim in anime/manga srtyles OR they draw despite they're not professionals. (i mean what the hell?! you ACTUALLY think my problem is that someone's drawing and posting things while their skills are still need to be trained and they shouldn't draw til they know everything about art and styles and shouldn't draw their favourite characters in different art styles?! For the love of god, please tell me you don't.....)

I acknowledge Invader Zim isn't an Anime in Style or Genre, but I prefer to draw it that way because it's more dynamic, and allows for both an air of seriousness and diversity that following the style of the cartoon wouldn't allow before...but then again, it depends what style of the...'style' you mean. Bug-eyed sparkly 'Kawii Desu (I just typed that; kill me. Even if it is wrong) style would make me wanna punch a bitch, but if you're talking Shonen, which is a more realistic and altogether more 'serious' style, then it won't look half bad.
At the end of the day, I'd prefer to see people trying different styles when drawing different fandoms. Mostly because the Anime/Manga style can be adapted into your own and changed, so you're going to get something interesting and unique more often than not, whereas if everyone drawing IZ kept with the same style as the cartoon, it would get awfully stagnant in itself. I wouldn't say to stop drawing it Anime Style, Realistic Style, or IZ Style; It's bigoted and rather arrogant. I'd say; draw it how you like. Just don't trace it!

First of all. Creating an atmosphere is not the matter of style at all, it's the matter of you and your abilites. All the styles are perfect to create any kind of atmosphere that the story or the characters require. If you can't create a dramatic (funny, happy, sad etcetcetc...)atmosphere that's not dramatic enough for you with the style of the original cartoon (while you're sure you already got the style perfectly), then it's because the story or the characters can't take so much drama (or anything else you wanted to draw - this is what's called OOC. And when you go OOC then it's not your favorite character anymore - it's a weird mutation of your fantasies and your fav character - but isn't it better to create your very own character then?)OR you're not skilled enough in this style or generally to create what you wanted to.
If a cartoon is so popular and professionally recognized then you can be sure if you can't draw something in the style of the cartoon but you can draw it in the style of a manga/anime then the problem is not with the style.
And second. This picture is pretty old, but I can't recall I mentioned that (here or in any other artist's comment) people should stop drawing it in anime/manga style. That's what fandoms are about. Drawing anything you want in any style you want, going crazy with your imagination and having fun. Believe me, i drew some crazy shit as a fan too...

Because as a cartoonist student, yes, it's something that's pretty painful to see - because of the cartoons I like and because of the mangas/animes I like. Because these idiots are just degrading the art of mangas AND cartoons.
If you look through my gallery you'll see that I'm not flaming or trolling anyone, but I have my opinion, and I'll say it. Still, i don't think i'm the one who should be call "bigoted and rather arrogant", because I'm not the one who's throwing opinions around without trying to understand what's going on in this fandom. But maybe you should go and ask the Z-A-D-R-club about this.

So the problem isn't necessarily with people drawing it in the style they prefer, so much as it is people disregarding the actual style as 'legitimate', if you will? In which case, yes, I agree. I thought it was only fair I should draw IZ in the 'proper' style first, before attempting anything else, which is what I did, before running away with it, if you could call it that, and drawing it in a way I felt I could do more with. And yes, I did move on to create an OC not too long ago, because I'm not really one for drawing fan-art very often and felt like I was going too against the gain with it. If anything, 'offical' fan art is mostly for 'grounding' myself with the fandom and it's universe; I never tend to do a lot before I move on with OC, which I prefer more than Cannons.
I've always seen style as a big indicator to atmosphere, myself. For one, I could never take anything draw in the whole 'Adventure Time' style very seriously, no matter how hard someone tried. The same applies for more sparkly and big eyed anime style. At the end of the day, it'll always look cute and never fit with a serious style. Jhonens style for IZ retains that creepiness from his Comics, and is a really good style for a lot of things, but it'll always be IZ; quite funny and child-like. Invader Zim has a completely different feel to something like Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, and I do lean towards it being the style. Although, JTHM lacks color, which, as part of the style, works for it's edge and general 'ragemode/the whole world sucks' feel.
Also, final note; if you never meant to come off as telling people to stop doing it (though, I have to say, it comes off very strongly as that ^_^;; ), then that was my mistake, and didn't mean to come off as nasty or insensitive if I did. Oh, and while I 'dislike' ZaDr fan-club stuff (or any pairings in IZ - Jhonen made it completely Pairing free because he doesn't like the idea of 'love' and most of the characters are, what? 11? That or unfeeling, uncaring alien races XD), as long as they aren't running around and slapping people with engraved fish, I can live with it.

Ummm... Invader Zim IS technically counted as "anime" because "anime" is the Japanese word for "cartoon". It doesn't matter what cartoon style the series is made in. If its a cartoon, its "anime". Though, I do agree with you- Invader Zim doesn't follow the template for being an anime series at all. However, when I was younger, Barnes & Nobles WAS selling an Invader Zim MANGA series made by the actual people working on it. My argument:
It is not done in the Japanese style, which doesn't make it fall under what we generally term "anime" here in the west. But Japanese would still call it "anime" because that is their word for "animation/cartoon". That and I myself actually don't mind all the anime-styled fanart since Zim's eyes are so huge and sparkly. lol They kind of make him fit in with it if you tweak him a little. xD
