Hey there!It's day 22 of Villain Month! Today, I give you Dr. Neo Cortex, made famous as Crash Bandicoot's arch nemesis way back in the PS1 days (the best Sony console, in my opinion).
Cortex's motives were never very clear to me. I'm sure he, like many other video game doctors, was looking to take over the world or something. Doctors in video games seem to like doing that (take Dr. Robotnik, Dr. Wily, and all of Cortex's Dr. friends and associates, for instance). Most of the time, they use robots and missiles and stuff to do all of their evil bidding, which leads me to believe that most of these doctors were probably nuclear radiologists and robotics experts before they were villains. I'd really hate to imagine what a former gynecologist would do...
Was that out of bounds?
Anyway, I really love the old Crash Bandicoot games. 1, 2, 3, and Crash Team Racing are all fantastic, but beyond that, the games range from "meh," to "really bad." I think it's a darn shame Crash has been completely redesigned these days, and I'm pretty sure Cortex is no longer a part of the story. Oh well, at least I still have a working copy of 3 that I can play on my PS2.
Most of the image is fairly accurate, as he was referenced from the manual for CB3, though I realized after finishing the pattern for the Nitro box background that I forgot to actually reference that from the manual as well, and was too lazy to go back and change it. Oh well. Nitro boxes are evil anyway, so I really have no desire to pay any respect to them the way I do Cortex.

Crash Bandicoot and Neo Cortex are (c) whoever owns them nowadays, though I know Naughty Dog used to make the games so I'll say that for nostalgia's sake. This image is (c) me, Andrew T. Green. It's not a particularly great image, so I can't imagine why you'd want to bother stealing it. Still, if the thought crosses your mind, please don't steal artwork because that's the internet equivalent of being trailer trash, and oh boy, what would the neighbors think?!

i agree whole heartedly with the crash's 1-4 being good and the others being a bit pants...Crash 2 still remains my fav

Damn, talk about nostalgia. I remember the GOOD OL' DAYS when Crash Bandicoot topped over Sonic & Mario in popularity (those live-action Crash commercials always cracked me up), and his games were so smooth and clean, like a brand new car (new car smell included).
I love the image, and yeah, I hated thosed damn Nitro boxes, too.

I always liked Mario more, but Crash definitely was better than the Sonic games for me. Of course...Crash games suck nowadays, but the old ones are great.

I know. I wish Naughty Dog would make a "Crash Collection" for the newer systems. A collection of Crash 1, 2, 3, and Kar Racing. Nothing else, just those games.
Or they could just make a Crash 4 and make it the way the first 3 were like.
In terms of who I liked best, I'm a Sonic fan first and foremost (I grew up on a Genesis before I got my PS1), but I like Crash just as much. As for Mario....eh. Plumbing just ain't fun anymore.

Man, Cortex is one of the best wimpy villains ever. I think he was just enlisted by Mr. Evil McMask there to do bad and naughty things.

I used to know the names of the masks, but they have escaped me.
When I was younger (around 8-10 years old), I would spend a lot of time at my best friend's house watching his mom play Crash Bandicoot for hours as she tried to get all of the boxes, crystals, gems, secret levels, etc. and since Crash's witch doctor mask would say "woobidugga!" when you broke him free from a box, we would call him Woobidugga Man. ;D

Aw, thanks! He's a fantastic character, though I find people forget about him in comparison to other video game baddies like Ganon and Bowser. He's not quite as high-profile, but he's got a great flavor all on his own.

Dad loves the Crash games. He used to play them all the time, he also used to kick my butt when we played CTR... so much has changed xD;; He lost every single time today (except one... but he was playing against someone who'd never played before so that doesn't count). XD

Probably Ripper Roo (from Crash 1 and 2). I always loved him ever since I first played the games. It never occurred to me to draw him for Villain Month until I did this image, but Roo might appear in these last few days of October if I begin to run dry.
