Description
The morning Alms Giving Ceremony in Luang Prabang, Laos. It's a great community ritual, even foreign tourists can take part in the ceremony which is always nice to see. I didn't take part but I did document the morning 3 days in a row. At the same time it's also quite sad seeing how the western tourists treat the monks like animals in a zoo. It's very disrespectful to get in their way as they walk down the street, some people firing their cameras directly into their faces as if they are an act in a show. I kept my distance to get my shots, shooting with a telephoto lens from across the road or behind the people giving alms. I'm glad we found more information about the ceremony so that we were respectful, it really is a beautiful thing that deserves to be cherished.

So... How exactly does the ceremony work? Do the people give the monks food, or vice versa?

I cannot believe people have the nerve to behave like that, getting in the middle of a ritual.
This photo is gorgeous and I'm happy to know that you respected the people and shot with a telephoto.
