Description Springbrook National Park - Natural Bridge - QLD, Australia.

This Natural Bridge is a naturally formed rock arch over Cave Creek. It was formed from a waterfall which undercut a cave beneath the waterfall and dug a pothole on top, until the two joined and the creek flowed through the cave, leaving an arch across the front.

The cave is home to a colony of glow worms which you can do a night tour through the cave. I'm yet to do that, gotta pick the right season.

About the photo:
I've always wanted a panorama of these falls ever since seeing Ken Duncan's [link]

6 image horizontal panorama stitch
3 underexposed, 3 overexposed
Tricky blending in PS to obtain complete shadow detail throughout.

Well done! Nailing the exposure on a panorama like this is certainly not easy... Have you ever tried a program called Hugin to make panoramas? It's not necessarily what you'd call user friendly per se, but it's free and it is very powerful once you can figure out its intricacies...

Personally, I'm happy to have gotten off the closed-source train and gone 100% open-source. Though I haven't had an opportunity to actually use Hugin to make any panos yet.

Beautiful! Am a huge fan of Ken Duncan and you know what...I prefer your shot Love how you've kept the lighting and shadows and the the shine of the water on the rocks on the left AND still all the light on the right AWESOME PS work!! Of course none of that would've been made possible without your skills behind the lens

I like your take more I think...great effort. When is glow worm season? You seem to have a blending error on the rock against the water just about in the middle and where the rock/trees meet on the right.

DrewHopper In reply to aFeinPhoto-com [2011-03-09 21:40:31 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I will have to re-stitch this one I think. It was a pain to stitch the darker image here, tried my best to get it even. I'm not sure when glow-worm season is, I will have to google that one

Stitching should be automatic w/ PS/autostitch/ptgui....

DrewHopper In reply to aFeinPhoto-com [2011-03-10 23:57:06 +0000 UTC]

I tried photomerge in ps auto but it wouldn't detect the dark exposure in the cave. I ended up doing it manually in PS which seemed to work fine, but now I see it's soft. It could even be water on the lens, the cave is very moist so it's probably a water droplet. I might have to go through the exposures I took and find a different photo or blend another shot into it
