Overall

Vision

Originality

Technique

Impact

(Note: this is my first deviantart critique so bare in mind that my words/opinion may not be the greatest, but I mean well by it.)

I'll start off by saying that this was fairly appealing to have caught my attention. Typically when I go through my messages from adoptable groups, I simply delete them all, but this stopped me for a moment to check it out. That added to the rating I gave toward vision and impact.

I really like your art style. It's very original and eye catching. I also like the design you used on the skirt of her outfit. It's both simple and unique, which is exactly what I love to see in outfit designs. Nothing too exaggerated or overwhelming.

Your shading is very well done. Even from a bit of a distance the depth in the shading is noticeable without it being too much. The shading was done best in my opinion for the hair and the skirt folds. You made it look very real and detailed.

The colors are nicely chosen, contrasting well on the first witch color design. Although the second one is rather monotone, I know that was intentional so I have nothing against it.

The proportions are fairly well done as well. Perhaps a little bit taller would have been nice, but I'm not too picky in heights. The only things in this deviation that really threw me off were the feet and hands. The feet were not shaped very well and look a bit too cartoon-like for my liking, or at least in this case. If this were a Chibi drawing, it wouldn't bother me. As for the hands, the hand holding the wand is backwards. This always bothers me in drawings. You can clearly see that the thumb is on the wrong side of the hand, therefore the witch on the left has two right hands and the witch on the right vice versa.

I would say that this design is fairly original. I know personally how hard it is to come up with an original design for a witch. Still, you managed a very unique outfit design which you really deserve proper credit for. I love the hat design and the golden lining, and as previously mentioned, the pattern on the skirt. In other words, all the outfit's design details are really great.

As a final note, I did watch the Speedpaint video of this before I wrote this critique and I must say I really admire the amount of work and detail you put into this. I'm sure it must have taken a rather long time to make despite already having her designed before.

Overall great job and I would love to see more of your work. (If you hadn't already guessed it, yes I will be watching you now.)

Well, let me say that first critique or not; you do a great job in this ! Your critique is really complete and answers a lot of questions that i have for the viewers. Thank you very much !

The design used in her skirt is pretty common in this series of adopt (there are five, though i only submitted two; and the third one is not to sell). I mean it's common in the 'world' where they live. I like to create world for my characters with some original fashion style unique to it. As you may have understood; this world usually use triangular and rectangulars shapes for the outfit patterns. They also use a lot of thoses goldens lines in their outfit. I tried to make it in a manner that we can easily believe that theses characters come from the same place only by watching their outfit; pretty much like we can know from where a person come simply by seeing their outfit in the real world (It's harder now because the world is a lot more 'smaller' and open; and fashion is pretty much the same every where ... i don't know how to explain what i mean so i'll just give you an example : When you see someone with a kimono; you pretty much understand quickly that she/he's an asian )

For her height; it was on purpose as i wanted to make a short character for once; and it can make some good to her personnality and create funny moments :3

For the feet; if you saw the video; you've seen that i've spent much time to find a nice position and i just grew frustrated after 30 minutes so i just finished them quickly; and the hand are my weakest point i think; i have a lot of troubles making them -and i never know where the thumb must go xD-

Thank you very much for this critique; it helps me a lot ! ♄
And thanks for the watch *-*

Nice one, though I don't have enough points to buy her...
But I wonder, how dA points could help you to buy a tablet?

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

Drewstudio In reply to JustSilvia [2013-07-04 17:19:43 +0000 UTC]

Oh, thank you !
Graphic tablets are pretty expensive, but i'm more lookin' for a cheap one (since i don't have the money and i'm not a professional artist ... yet). The one i'm eying is like 100~200USD so it's between 10.000 and 20.000 . That's a lot, i know; that why i'm trying to do adoptables and i'm selling my OC. Cause without a graphic tablet; i'm not even sure i can draw them so ... XDĀ

Oh dear, you don't know that you can't convert points into money? It's impossible.
Here [link] at the bottom, rule 3. So doing point adoptables or commissions if you need money is just pointless...

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

Drewstudio In reply to JustSilvia [2013-07-04 20:52:04 +0000 UTC]

I'm not going to convert my point into money (though i do find this rule pointless; why don't they let us do it as long as we pay some fee ?); i'm going to sell the adopts through premium content; the points will go to my earning and dA allow me to withdraw them with paypal or bank cheque

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

JustSilvia In reply to Drewstudio [2013-07-04 21:21:57 +0000 UTC]

But isn't withdrawing points the same as converting into money? And how dA could allow you to do it if in their rules is clearly written that it's not allowed? Sorry, I don't get it You're saying that you're going to sell the adopts through premium content - okay, but it's still in points... Moreover, you told people to pay just through your donation pool, which isn't a premium content at all. I don't understand it, something's wrong here...

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

Drewstudio In reply to JustSilvia [2013-07-04 21:37:44 +0000 UTC]

Premium content is a fairly new system in dA. It's not converting MY point to money; it's more like a tool that allow artist that sell their art with money to offer their art to the deviant with point. The deviants pay with points but the artist receive money (You can find the money waiting to be withdrawn in 'Shop > My Earnings'.)
The only problem with this, is that deviantart apply fees. When someone buy something with 800 for example, the artist receive 80$ only (When you buy points, 80 = 100$). 20% are off then, that's why people prefer to buy their adopt directly through paypal without passing throught Premium content.
I'm not very good at explaining, but there is a lot of tutorials on this; just browse 'point money' or 'premium content' ;D

JustSilvia In reply to Drewstudio [2013-07-04 21:48:16 +0000 UTC]

Well, in that case, if it really is just as you say... Good luck with your tablet, I hope you'll earn enough funds
I don't want to argue or something, just want to know how it works

P.S. 80 isn't 100$, it's 1$

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

Drewstudio In reply to JustSilvia [2013-07-04 22:55:01 +0000 UTC]

I meant 800$=100$ (but the artist only earn 80$. dA takes 20%)
Thank you very much ! :3 I hope i helped you to figure it out a bit; if you still have some questions; don't hesitate !

JustSilvia In reply to Drewstudio [2013-07-04 23:00:30 +0000 UTC]

800$ = 100$? Really? XD (Ok, ok, I think I know what you wanted to say, but it's still funny XD)
