I plan on returning to the New Mutant characters in some way or another upon completing the 50-State Initiative characters. If you like, I can frontload him for my next piece.  

I typically only draw the same character more than once if I can present them in different costumes, powers, or skill sets.  This challenges me to come up with unique actions for them instead of the old standing pose. (like I did with Pyro). If you have a specific costume, power or skill set you would like to see, I'll see what I can do.

I experimented with the fire a lot on this one, and it seemed to work out well. Thanks for the comment. 

I never understood why he wore pilot pants, but it works.

Yeah, the fire looks terrific.

So he wore them in the comics?  Somehow I remembered him as being in full spandex ever since he got his costume in X-Terminators #2.

When he transferred over to the New Mutants before going rogue (during the Rob Liefeld era), he had pants on over his typical spandex for some reason.

Weird, I just reread those very issues a couple weeks ago and never noticed. But I just checked them again now and sure enough, there are the pants. Though in fairness to myself, it seems like most panels only show him from the waist up.
