Inspired by Red Dwarf: Back To Earth on DAVE in the UK... rekindled my interest in Red Dwarf, and had to make a little fan comic...
I think it's much better than the old Dwarf comics I drew in the late 90's for the Red Dwarf fan club.Page 7

LOVED it! One question, I'm doing my own Doctor Who comic, and I'd like it to look more professional like yours! How do I colour, do speech bubbles neater and sounds effects? On the computer?

To your questions... In short - practice, practice, practice, practice, practice.....
I've had a brief look at you Who pages, and they remind a lot of the types of pages I was drawing years back. Two things you need to do to start with - a)clean up your lineart, remove the pencil smudges etc (this will help the colouring) and b) you need to add your speech balloons and text separately.
I colour using Photoshop, and letter using Illustrator, but you can do basic lettering in Photoshop. I'd suggest doing a Google search (or search on DeviantArt) for some tutorials to get you started. YouTube is good too.
It's not going to be something you'll nail overnight though, so be prepared to put some graft in! Good luck!

That's up to you matey. The art you've done so far, it's possible to remove the speech balloons in Photoshop and clean it up and still use it - as I say, it'll just take time and practice.

I totally wish this was in a store... I would buy it, no matter what the price... And trust Rimmer to go back to his safety speech... You really captured who they are in every panel... I could hear their voices saying it all, and I only have that happen if they would really say stuff like that... I loved every second of it... Just wish it was longer

Thanks Milkater, that means a lot! I have pitched a graphic novel idea to the Red Dwarf production company, and while they are quite supportive of the idea, it's not something they can really afford to finance themselves. I was given permission to shop the idea around to comic's publishers, but no one would bite. I'd also looked into financing it myself, but I just don't have the funds at this moment in time. Maybe in the future, who knows? You can see part of the pitch here - [link] - I commissioned my friend Ryan Button *PrivateRandom (who's a much better artist than me) to draw some lineart for the pitch. One was a version of the Series II Holly speech, and the other was an adaptation of a part of the first Red Dwarf novel.
But I'm glad you enjoyed my little comic - and I'm really glad you enjoyed the writing behind it!

I quite enjoyed reading your comic. If it was sold in a store, I would totally buy it.
You really showed how much potential a fan can have.
You can draw backgrounds, characters, text and speech bubbles. The colouring is great, the comic is funny and you captured their personalities well. So it doesn't matter that much, if faces aren't your strong point, because you have heaps of other strong points
