Description
*** THE ARCADE TRAIN***Time taken: Over 60-65 hours
Tools: Wacom Tablet + SAI Paint (for the entire drawing, plus PS CS4 for the final retouching and filters)
Author note: At last! I have finished the drawing that took my time during this summer that is sadly about finish. The idea appeared suddenly and I felt like having to make it now or it would never come true. But after a lot of sketches, searches, arrangements and, over all, hours of careful pen-making, effort worth!
Description: As you can see, the idea was to collect so many as possible of the most emblematic arcade characters that have been in our tablets for the last years. Specially, the tribute is dedicated to the App Store, since all of them can be found there, but also a wide majority is at the Android Market as well. It wouldn’t be weird to assert that in the recent times, arcade app-games (or casual games) have been achieving an important place in the videogame world nowadays. Needless to say that some of the games belong to well-known sagas ideated by the leader videogame companies, with graphics and gameplays at a very high level. But besides, the magic of this new kind of playing is due to these little studios that never had the opportunity to develop that title they were longing, and finally that first game came true, and many of them have become a reference in the Store. Because of that, the drawing it’s also an acknowledgment to all those indie studios with truly clever and potential ideas.

Note1: As you can see, I have not included references to all the games belonging to a famous saga of a well-known company (NFS, Fifa, GH, Sims, COD, Dead Space, Prince of Persia, etc.) because I wanted to focus more in the independent studios. However, you can actually see reference to classic arcade games I did want to draw just for the history they represent (Tetris, Arkanoid, Pacman, Pinball…). Moreover, I have also avoided drawing characters from films (Spiderman, Despicable me, Disney, Star Wars…) spite of having released their own popular games at the Stores. Finally, the inclusion of the control pad was another blink, this time to three beloved characters of videogames history (Rayman, Bomberman & Sonic) who have known how to adapt their titles to these new markets.
Note2: I have tried to include references to the most popular games at the market nowadays and for the last two-three years, but also I have included some of the games that I most enjoyed at its time, some of those little jewels that, though they are not so well-known, I would recommend to everyone.
Note3: I know the original meaning for "Arcade" term refers to the old entertainment machine, but here I have used the other meaning refering to those games that remind us of the arcade original games, or those ones which focus on a progressive difficulty and an easy gameplay (and more fun in many occassions) instead of in the graphics, the storyline or the characters depth. Anyway, there is a bit mix of many of the games you can find at the Stores.
ALL OF THE CHARACTERS BELONG TO THEIR RESPECTIVES OWNERS/CREATORS.
Anyway, the concept of the train can also be seen as a reference to the temporality of this emerging gameplay. Is it just the trend we all are following in these years (the train we take) or has it actually become a new reality for the incoming times, as the new most popular way to play, eclipsing in a certain mode the classic videogame systems?
By the way, are you missing some of your favorite characters? Don’t hesitate and let me know it in the comments; maybe in a future I could update a 2.0 version with a new round of forgotten and upcoming characters‼
THANKS FOR WATCHING, FAVING, SHARING OR/AND COMMENTING.

Ah but arcades aren't a thing in the USA anymore. And apparently the arcade industry in Japan isn't doing too well either. I hate reading articles about arcades shutting down.
All I got now is emulation. T_T
Good ol' Mame.
Would be nice if more arcade titles came to Steam.

Yap, I know, that's the original meaning of the term, but sadly they are all disappearing
In this drawing I used it instead the other meaning, as refering to those games that remind us of the arcade original games, or those ones which focus on a progressive difficulty and an easy gameplay (and more fun in many occassions) instead of in the graphics, the storyline or the characters depth.
Anyway, many of the App games try to emulate arcade games and some of them get very satisfying results. ^ _ ^

Unfortunately I don't have a smart phone. Phones and games with touch screens never clicked with me. I need an arcade stick and buttons!

Yeah, I understand it, although I consider tablet games as an alternative gameplay, in the case of videoconsoles, I'm still not used to playing with moves and that kind of stuff and I prefer a controlpad with the classic botons and joysticks haha

If I were to ever make an animated movie, I'd make it look like this.
