Here's what I was thinking could be the states of the races.
Pony: Earth Pony has balanced stats. Unicorn Ponies have access to magic and have high attack power and magic but low defense. Pegasus Ponies have flight, ability to manipulate weather for use and high stamina. Alicorn is unlocked by completing the game as each type of pony. Has all 3 abilities of the 3 and has high stats to all. No matter what type of pony you choose all will have powerful back kicks.
Dragon: Elemental breaths, flight, high attack and defense but low stamina. There are fire, lighting, and ice breath attacks and can help against opponents. fire does extra damage, ice can slow enemies, and lightning has a chance to stun.
Hippogryph: Balanced stats, and has takes more damage from lightning attacks and higher chances of being stun by lightning attacks as well, better at using weapons then any race.
Changeling: low attack, low defense, and high stamina, high magic. Can absorb the love from teammates to raise attack temporarily and can disguise itself as the enemy to go unseen. Sneak attacks from behind while disguised can cause huge damage.
anthro dog?: is better at finding treasure then any other, high attack and stamina, low defense.
That's all I can think of at the moment. What do you think?

Likewise. =3 I think is possible, since modders can edit character looks and shapes in the game already. ( Someone made Mario & Sonic characters. )

(awesome) but the reason i chose the diamond dog aside of their digging abilities is i believe they are a bit of a strength and defense type almost like a tank in a way

And probadly Racial ability to boost gems finding. ( Lack of flying ability fixed with money making. ) x'3
