Description Here is (finally) my entry for the fire contest of #myths-and-fantasy . And I'm so happy it's finally done! I felt like drawing this picture for quite a while but I felt like I wasn't experienced enough to make it come out the way I wanted. But when that contest came I changed my mind and I'm glad I did because I think this is one of my best works up to now. With the multiple characters and lightsources and everything.
This drawing even has a background story: [link]
I recomment you read the story before you take a look at the picture. That's a pretty pointless thing to say right now, but, o well. I don't care.
The deadline is at 30th november. Wish me good luck guys!

Oh wow. Having read the prose beforehand, I find this so saddening (even accounting for ambiguity, chances of casualities will still be high) in contrast to how I imagine I'd have reacted to this on its own. All the same, great work on both.

I'm personally not really fond of portraying battles like this, with an obvious "bad" side and a "good" side. I felt like it was necessary though. Thanks a lot

Hm, well there is still some ambiguity about the war overall. For example, it isn't known who started the conflict; the history between the two sides overall. We can even go all conspiracy-theorist and say, 'were the soldiers really going there? Or is that just what they want you to think?'
I suppose with asymmetrical warfare it's hard to not have something of a slant.

I think that idea of 'fire against fire' is simply epic, somthing totally new and creative!
I also like that this picture is the sequel to the story, but still doesn't give a definite ending.

The whole artwork is very emotional, especially because of the dragons in the front.
All these different lightsources are just stunnning and really, really well done.
And the colours make the pic sort of joyful, although it isn't. Somehow this whole artwork plays with contradicting emotions. On one hand the fire breathing dragon makes me angry, but the shot dragon makes me sad and feel pity.

The firework in the front looks very realistic and I find it amazing that you even let the light shine through the wings. Also, every dragon is unique and looks different from the others. You put a lot of effort into the details. And the fact that it gets less detailed and blurrier in back makes the view very realistic.

Thanks a lot for the feedback, I'm glad you like it so much . Do you happen to know some how I could improve? As in constructive critism?

Hmm, now after looking at this artwork very close again, I found some minor things that you could improve (but honestly, overall this piece is flawless).
1. I noticed that the claws/hands of the dragon that's spitting fire aren't very detailed. I would very much have liked it of you had added some really sharp, shiny claws. I think that would have made this dragon look even more menacing. Though, on the other hand it's good that one can't see any real claws at the dragon that's getting hit, that makes it look even more vulnerable.
2. I think you could have made the fire, that the one dragon is spitting, look even more realistic. It's very good already, and I can imagine that doing fire is extremely difficult (I never tried doing fire myself so far because I'm scared of that challange^^), but somehow it's lacking that lively aura. But this lack of lively aura to the fire could also be interpreted in the way that fire is just a tool to the dragons and therefor this fire doesn't need a will of it's own.
3. And oh, this is really something minor, but probably you could have added a few stars to the night sky. But then, there are already so many different light sources. And like metioned in the story the fire work is the fake shooting stars.

Thanks an awful lot. I will take this into account. I'm indeed not good at drawing fire at all. But I just keep on trying and maybe one day it will work out. at last, thanks a lot

You're welcome! I really love it.
Honestly, at the moment I can't find anything that's off. But if I've got an idea how you could improve even further I'll make sure to tell you.

Thanks! Will you articipate too? I have only one opponent yet and the deadline is still miles away.

great! But firework is an explosion. So in what way is it actually different from bombs?

moonwaterlight In reply to drosera-sundews [2012-10-18 19:46:29 +0000 UTC]

there's not a big difference. the only thing is that fireworks have nice colors and have a 'good image' and explode in a beautiful way. Bombs have mushrooms
