Oh man! I've been looking at this on the thumbnail... the damn thumb doesn't do it justice at all. This is every fairy lover's dream... every girl who believed in Tinkerbell.

Oh hell with the cliche stuff. I got to say this is absolutely fabulous. First Velvet, from the top down, incredibly good looking young woman, expertly drawn... she all but leaps off the page. Girl talk... I love it, and seems just the thing someone in her situation would do.

The fairies themselves... *laughs* Not your storybook "happily ever after" sort of fairy... nor your terribly beautiful but terribly mindless fairy of "Labyrinth" Not your disney fairy, but something totally believable yet unexpected. The plump one... the detail of what they're wearing (and not wearing... are we in slumber party mode here?) is eye catching... the indentations in Velvet's pants from where the one is standing upon her is a crowing touch. So far, this shot, out of all your Velvets, is my favorite Velvet, and you can rest assured I've faved it, and if I haven't I will very soon.

Stunning. Absolutely stunning.

I have two questions. Firstly, the perspective. Did you snag a model for this one?

And secondly, is anyone else interested... what would you say to turning this one into a print? I should think a black and white would sell...

Wow, thank you so much for your comments. Although I didn't use a model for this picture, continual practice with live models certainly enhanced my knowledge of foreshortening to help me on this one.

I will make it available as a print. I'll need to download a higher res copy to DA first so the print looks good. I'm glad so many people are liking this one.

Peace out!

I need to proofread more. "Crowning touch"... totally different feeling than "crowing".

Sorry.

Super strong forced perspective = instantly cool in my book, I so love extreme manipulation of the viewer's perspective... and then you go and draw so well on top of it... well. What more can I say! Kudos on a brilliant drawing

Thanks, but I do have to make one correction on it. Check back in a couple of days and see if you can spot it.

It is so impossibly rare to see interesting compositions and perspective. This covers both quite nicely. From the way her hair curves around her face to the material of her dress poofing around her body to her hand. . .it is absolutely wonderful. I also love her sleeves. . .though her ear seems a wee bit back (as if I'd know what it looks like from up top anyways >.>, the shading is both clean and classy.

In short, it is a marvelous piece.

Thanks for the comments. I just went to your page and OMG you are gorgeous! I'll bet your dad has to sit on the front porch with a shotgun!lol

I like your manips and the pencils though still a bit uncertain have a great deal of vitality and sense of design. Your use of backgrounds and textures aids in developing your compositions.

Good work!

thanks for the compliments, but i am taken and neither me or my boyfriend really appreciates a comment like that. the way you worded it made me sound kinda slutty. just wanted to let you know. i do really appreciate you liking my art, though, so thanks again.

DrStrangebob In reply to crimson-ivory [2005-04-26 01:21:06 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, I guess the compliment perhaps was too strong for you and I'm sorry the humor wasn't appreciated. I certainly don't think that because you are pretty that makes you "slutty" and I'm sorry you misunderstood.

The remark about the dad with the shotgun is an old joke from my generation and perhaps someone as young as you didn't understand it.
Since I probably won't hear back from you I want you to know that I feel bad about you taking my remark as offensive. It was meant as a compliment in a humourous manner and may have been inappropriate.

Thank you for your own kind words to me and please continue with your art and best of luck to you and Darryl.

Your welcome. And thank you too. I still when I read what I wrote can hardly believe I wrote it. It truly has bothered me that I was so insensitive and your reply has brought me relief.

Good luck and great blessings to you!

your generation? How old are you? And yea, her daddy doesn't need to guard her, thats what I'm for and she has enough control over herself to say no that daddy doesn't need to go commando. 'You're pretty' or 'You're a great model' woulda worked fine.

See it from my perspective, I don't really like to see someone I who I don't have any idea how old they are making comments like that. That was a hit on, at least to us. Mabye we're too sensitive, but whatever. I'm the asshole boyfriend role so whaddya expect?

But like she said, thanks for the compliments on the art, she needs to get every bit of encouragement she can to get better, and I don't see a end in sight to her progression.

DrStrangebob In reply to darkone0432 [2005-04-26 14:06:46 +0000 UTC]

I'm 51, probably older than her daddy, but what you're saying is right. The comment I made was inappropriate. Particularly for someone I just met online.

When I received your responses yesterday, I was troubled. At first by how upset you were but then I did start to look at it from your perspective. What I wrote was wrong.

It was unlike my nature. Although I usually do kid around, that was too strong. I don't know you or her and to you both I apologize.

I think what bothered me is that I am one of those people who doesn't like to hurt anyone. I've seen enough pain inflicted on innocents in my life and to cause someone the discomfort you both must have felt left me feeling empty and upset. I've worried about it since I got her response.

I am glad to get this opportunity to tell you both that I'm sorry. I wish you all the best in the future. continue your lifepaths with joy and love and may those paths be blessed and blissful... and creative.

I won't send this to her. It will be up to you to do so if you wish to. I am embarrassed and would not initiate any contacts between us unless either of you asks for more contacts. That's up to you.

Thank you for this opportunity to respond.

Yea, well I figured you just didn't realize how it may've sounded. And yea, you are older than Jerry lol. I know she's absolutely gorgeous, and I wouldnt've minded a regular compliment, but needless to say I get all on edge when I read something like that. I'm really glad this didn't have to be a bitch fit (I've put up with pleanty of those on here already). All hail the reasonable and intelligent

I regards to your art; I'm not usually big on the comic scene but your stuff is quite captivating... especially your realism art like the one that Jess commented on. Really cool stuff

And tell her whatever you want, I can't tell you not to respond to her, I was just trying to get you to check yourself, all I expected back from you was a 'Fuck off' but I'm glad you could see from my side. And neither of us care what you say in the future, we're not that upset and she appreciates compliments, but like I said, it bothers me. If you like her art, comment, she's not disturbed by your presence, after all its just type anyways.

Take care of yaself
-Darryl

yea, my photomanips leave alot on the table but its practice I suppose lol, and about my obsession w/ sunsets... I love it because its like something painted that sky, same sun, same horizon, same everything, but a different masterpiece every night. I very much so hold back on the submissions... otherwise it'd be all I had But I do need a better camera... 3.2 MP's just isn't enough for some of the shots I've taken... *sigh* the need for money never be over! lol
