wow, you did an all around great job on this. The line work is superb, the background blends well and does not feel rushed at all(well thought out), and your expressions truly give the picture character.

Definately a strong moment occuring, but I must be the only one to whom this looks like two or three different styles thrown together. Velvet looks good, both in line work and as the focal point. She's got that power and look to her that just says stress. This must be when she's just escaped from her not so kindly mentor?

The comic style is comic... a bit of what you see in the funny pages, or graphic novels, or big kid comic books. It's the old "impossible becomes real" look that you see in the good pages of superman and batman and prince valiant etc... you know it's a comic but that doesn't mean it's a "cute drawing" or the like.

But the wolf... He's not comic. He's Boris, Frazetta, Bell... the kind of thing that leaps out of a painting at you, graces book covers and movie posters. He's seriously cool, and done in one hell of a great style... but he just looks different than the rest of the picture. They're both very well drawn, super pieces of artwork, but I have trouble seeing them match.

Just me I guess.

I think in regards to the trees... the sceneray... they match either of them. I can see that forest as a backdrop for White Fang, or for Velvet runs away. *chuckles* They're that well drawn, and that sharply defined. It could just be that because Velvet seems so sharp, with every line of her body clearly defined, it offsets the softer outlining of the wolf. I know he's clearly detailed, but he blends more... nothing is quite so sharp as it is on Velvet. I would say that could be the point, Velvet as the main character out there and in your face, and the wolf fades in focus a little back. Or maybe I've been looking at too many artists and I have my head somewhere it doesn't belong...

*chuckles* Forgive me if I'm too critical. Just my eye and the screen.

k

I did try to make this a little more "comic" style using more clear outlines and less feathering. This gives a cleaner look to the overall drawing, though it does contribute to a less gritty look.

Your assessment in paragraph 5 is right on. The blacks and the foreground placement of V are intended to set her up as the center and the approach of the wolf is a quiet secondary or subordinate visual which supports the central figure's configuration( action, mood, stance, etc.).

His cautious approach and her obvious radiation of heat are designed to make V seem a fearful, as opposed to fearfilled, object in this instance. The pastoral calm of the background further enhances V's menacing intrusion into the serene Winter quiet.

As expressed previously, I blush at the comparison to my Frazzled idol. Thanks again!

I agree, it is wonderful. The linework is crisp and smooth and lemony-fresh. (pine fresh?) Velvet is absolutely the focal point here, can't miss her can you? And I hate wolves, especially Norse wolves =3

But in seriousness, yours looks very fluffy and believable. His eyes are so deep. Great yummy piece.
