Description
A little one-hour entry into the Animal Villains Contest .
For my entry I decided to go a little out of the box and draw the T-Rex from Fantasia.
Fantasia is my favorite Goldren Era Disney movie, and The Rite of Spring was my favorite segment as a little girl. Still is, too.
One, because it uses Stravinsky's Rite of Spring and two, because it's got really stunning weighty animation.
If I'm not mistaken, the fantastic Woolie Reitherman was the lead animator of the scene. He did other great Disney scenes like the Monstro chase in Pinocchio and the dragon fight in Sleeping Beauty. He also went on to direct a buncha Disney films after Walt passed on.

Man was that T-Rex scary... Ah mean, to the 5-year-old's eyes his mouth was basically Hell's toothed entrance !!

Beautiful recreation of the scene! Rite of Spring is easily my favourite segment too. I mean, it's Disney doing dinosaurs - what more could you want???

Excellent Job!

Awesome work.
Did you know special effects master Ray Harryhausen was working on his own little dinosaur film until Fantasia came out.

Nice rain. I like the "mood" on this one. It passes some tension, and I think that was the objective.

I have to admit I never watched Fantasia, but I guess this makes me want to. They way the eyes pop out because of their colouring is really cool by the way

I vaguely remember the Fantasia Rite of Spring. Β The T-Rex was one that stood out. Β Great choice for this contest.

Heh, this was my favourite bit as well. I've always loved dinosaurs and even though T-Rex didn't really stand straight like that (they were more horizontal) he still made a great villain. It's an intense scene and you've probably noticed that things are a lot clearer on the DVD version. You've done a beautiful image that cleverly works in the purple colour for those extra points. Love it

I actually really like the wonky anatomy of the dinosaurs in it. It kinda makes them otherworldly in a way.

So awesome! Love how their eyes are so bright and prominent compared to the rest of the image.

This segment was my first fascination for dinosaurs before Jurassic Park came to Hollywood, as far as I know.
Animation when blended with classical music is just pure awesomeness, a good treat...

This is fantastic. I have this song on my ipod purely because of this movie. Whenever I hear it I think of this segment.

Thanks~! I've seen the movie so many times I can probably recall the pictures into my head just by listening to the music. ^0^

I remember this scene, poor ole Steg lost the fight. Β Fantasia still mesmerizes me with it's art and music beautifully combined. Β While both Fantasia and Fantasia 2000 are excellent films, I like the original a little bit more. Β
After seeing this, I went and dragged my DVD copy out of the closet for tonights entertainment!

I really like Fantasia 2000 as well, but there's just something about the original.
