Okay...I picked this out of your "underappreciated" lineup because it's one that stood out.
(+) Great subject with lots of character and tecture in his face.
(+) Good composition
(-) Focusing is off. I could care less if the top of his head is sharp...I want to see those lines in his face.
So, that's 2 to 1?
Let me pick another one now...

Hi Daniel,
I think the setup is great for this portrait, but the are two things that needed more attention to make it perfect:
1. Focus: unless there is a very good reason, every portrait should have the eyes in focus. Here the focus is further back (earing?) which I find distracting.
2.Less firm - light: I think a little more light in the face would have helped. Two options are fairly easy - a reflector to throw some light in the face, or fill flash, set to about -2 stops or more, would add a glint in the eye and give them emphasis.
Remeber - "The eye are a mirror to the soul!"

Just remember - for critical applications, manual focus is best, unless you have eye-sight problems!
I hardly ever use AF on my SLR!

haunting. I like the identity between the man and the weathered fence..nice visual statement and metaphor for his life.

I agree with quizzard. It's awfully dark, but a great shot.

really good portrait, but again a little too dark for my taste. perhaps you should calibrate your monitor?

dark and contrasty is good, but not at cost of detail imho. you can hardly see any detail in his right eye.

yeah, the hair looks good...it's just the area around his eyes that could be a little brighter. the focus doesnt really bother me. like i said, its a good portrait anyway
