Description Despite the title, the sun isn't actually the primary light source here. I used a wireless speed light positioned on the left side of the tall flower to illuminate the scene. That's how I was able to achieve these intense highlights while maintaining the very dark mysterious background. (That's another field of bluebonnets back there, in case you were wondering!!)

On another note, this is the very first picture I've ever uploaded that came straight out of my camera. There is absolutely NO editing whatsoever on this picture. No adjustments to saturation, exposure, sharpness, ANYTHING.
I added my watermark in Photoshop and that's all!

For those of you curious about what this would look like WITHOUT the speed light, I've uploaded that as well for demonstration purposes:
