Description Holy Crap. I never want to do this again. Ever. So this semester I am taking a Photoshop class, as per the requirements in my field of study and one of the assignments is to do a VECTOR project. Which means, nothing, and I mean nothing can be done by sheer hand. Using the pen tool is okay as it is considered vector, but come ON, drawing normally is pain enough, now we have to go completely to vector? Does the world hate me or something?

Drama aside, I like how the overall look came out for this, but I am not happy with the colors. There's just something about them that bugs me, and I'm not sure what it is. I was originally going to do pastel, but one cannot do a nice green tea look with pastel colors. What do you all think? What could be improved on the colors/style to make this a stronger Vector art piece? I am banging my head in frustration at this, so any help in the matter would be appreciated!

Huh. I guess it makes sense to have a vector assignment, but why in PhotoShop? Personally, I feel that vectors belong exclusively in Illustrator, but then again, maybe that's the challenge -- to use a feature that was never originally intended to be part of PhotoShop.

As for your colours, I don't know what you'd want to go for, but you could try changing the line colour of the objects to match the objects themselves (so the blue cup could have a dark blue outline, for example. Also, you could make the tea splatter/spills more transparent, but that might introduce more realism than you're aiming for.

Why in Photoshop? Because my teacher is INSANE that is why. She's a real piece of work, I have to tell you. >.<

I tried to actually start off with coloring the outer lines a deeper color than what was used on the actual cup or background, and it just... didn't work that well. The tea splatter being a bit transparent might throw it off a bit, as it's all basically strong colors and nothing else would have that sort of quality to it. Gaaa, *bangs head* I am so not cool, am I?

I think you're quite awesome for being able to pull off so much in sth like Photoshop. Just the other day I was actually trying to vectorize a design I had, but it failed horribly, and I was forced to wait 'til I could get home to my other computer with all the adobe goodies. So, kudos to you~

A vector is a mathematical equation that is done on artwork so that it can be scaled to any size and still retain it's smoothness. It's a pain in the ASS really. XD

Especially when I only used the pen tool... like twice. All the other shapes are done with the different shape tools Photoshop offers you and modifying them with the transform tool.

I actually don't mind the pen tool that much, especially when you used the lasso tool for it. XD I basically only used the pen tool TWICE for this one. The rest of the objects you see were done using the shapes tools offered and then modifying those shapes using the transform tool. It was a rather large hassle and took more time than it was worth.
