This is a quick tutorial I had whipped up after some people were asking me how I painted this pictureif you have any further questions let me know and I'll try to answer

if you make a custom brush, under the 'texture' checkbox you can create a lot of neat effects!
It also helps to have a tablet for pressure sensitivity

It's a couple different photoshop brushes that I was fiddling with
This was one of my first tries with them, I think I got his scales down better in my other picture of Toothless, which is newer

Usually a few evenings of work! I never was able to study art academically, so I imagine some of my techniques are 'wrong' and could be done faster in another way
I hope to learn and become faster (and better) though!
