The lighting on the snail is superb; makes him translucent. Very nice focus, also.

You know, I thought this was a glass ornament or jewelry at first, looking at the thumbnail... Even in full view, it looks like it could be made of glass...

Many invertebrates ( and even some vertebrates! ) are somehow transparent in fact... it's worth using back-light when shooting some of them

there are much smaller, especially when they are young, the smallest are Chondrinidae: [link]

And if you roll the seed backwards very slowly, you get a Snailmill.

how did you get such a DOF with F 9.0? I thought that would be f1.2 or similar with the blur background.

Dunadan-from-Bag-End In reply to ladymorgana [2010-03-09 19:33:27 +0000 UTC]
Not really, working distance was very small ( around 1 meter ) as for such focal length - 280mm... DoF depends on f number and scale ( which is derived from focal length and working distance ) - here scale was quite big ( around 1:2 or 1:3 ).

It's the focal length of 280mm that provides the DOF in this case not the aperture.

Konica Minolta Dynax 7D, it's dead now... ( using in harsh conditions made it corroded )

It was a good one wasn't it?
I had been using a Minolta before but it wasn't digital and it broke down eventually. I now wish it was digital

Hm... for a time its was fantastic body! best ergonomy ever in history, first camera with built-in anti-shake and some other nice features. On the other hand - poor AF, no sealing ( yeah, I know something about it ) and some problems with flashguns ( never used it anyway ). If only Minolta didn't fused with Konica... well, that's history now...

nightflight935 In reply to Dunadan-from-Bag-End [2010-03-12 10:35:45 +0000 UTC]
I see. So you're saying I shouldn't get a Minolta if I want to buy a reflex camera?

Dunadan-from-Bag-End In reply to nightflight935 [2010-03-12 12:07:32 +0000 UTC]
Minolta doesn't produce dSLR anymore, now Sony took over whole system. And I reommend it, it's not significantly worse than others ( Canon or Nikon ) and it got its own advantages ( i.e. buil-in image stabilisation with EVERY lens ). Sony is becoming very important player on the market of cameras...
