This might be the most beautiful dragonfly photo I've seen.Β

I can assure you there are better photos on the net but indeed, I like this one too, thank you!

The wings have beautiful colours!
What are these 4 white "tentacles" coming out of the old larva-shell?

I'm not sure. It may be breathing system - it also moults. It may be some kind of bound between old "skin" and young imago.

Great capture! I'm still waiting to get something like this. I can imagine it must have been quite tricky to take that picture (and I'd certainly have dipped my pants into the water, only paying attention to the dragonfly ).

As said - the problem lied in the fact that it was just over wtaer-table of river. I had nothin (river) to the left and very steep and very high coast with bushes, branches and roots to the right. Very interesting place - there a colony of sand martins nearby and also a nest of kingfisher.

Have you managed to get captures of the kingfisher as well?

I can imagine the situation, been in similar ones way too often. I fear the day I slip and drown my poor camera...

No I didn't they are very shy, but maybe this summer I'll try to catch one.
