Once a month or so, I go out sketching in nature. So much of my artwork is done on computer these days, it's good to get out with sketchbook and pencils and remember what it's like to look at actual objects instead of pictures of them, and to make marks directly on paper instead of moving a stylus around a tablet.

This tree, which I've drawn and photographed several times, was in the woods near Martin's Pond in North Reading, Massachusetts. Unfortunately, it didn't survive last winter's storms, and is down now.
