Description And again, I have no idea what this is. It's growing on a tree in the playground. From far away they looked like tiny pine cones. I thought they were kind of cute, though.

Those are catkins, the pollen filled male pine flowers. The female flowers are tiny tiny pink pinecones. Since pines aren't pollinated they need huse, petal-less flowers to spreads lots of pollen in he hope some blows on the wind to another tree.

Lovely details captured. The colours are bit unusual shade and make this photo little out the usual 'cutness' comment. However it makes me think about ugly-beautiful things that nature have given us. Well found and admired detail this is and nice focus
