Description
Update of an old concept sketch.3 Variraptor Mechinorum (2 adults and a sub adult female at the left) feast on a Rhabdodon carcass, in Late Cretaceous central europe. To recreate Variraptor feathery I got inspiration from moderns owls and eagles.
EDITED: version with provisional colours. Probably donΒ΄t make it justice but is the best I can do....

Out of curiosity, is your Variraptor family group based on the Bambiraptor family group in Burnham 2004? I just thought it was quite coincidental that both consist of 2 adults & a sub-adult. As for the drawing itself, other than the lack of blood, I like it (especially the colors).

This is nice.
It seems like a realistic scene that could have happen back in the late Cretaceous of Europe's island's.
This kind of reminds me of another picture by Luis V. Rey

I love Reys "Turkeynychus", although most likely they didnt have naked necks and heads is cool nonetheless.
Glad you like it!

Great, and we never know for sure if the animal has that look or not.

Well yeah, there are intestines and all that good stuff, but I mean that there should be some blood on the ground and on the raptors' muzzles. It's amazingly well drawn, don't get me wrong, but I think it would look a lot more realistic with some blood added. Buuut I like blood so my opinion might be influenced slightly... O

You might be right. Although I wanted it to be realistic, when you see modern predatory birds furiosly eating some corpse they usually end up all soaked in blood. I guess I can add more blood in the future (meanwhile you can imagine they just started the banquet )

Hah, alright I'll do that! Or maybe I'll just put red ink on the screen. That could work. Everything could always use a little more blood on it....

Awesome work, any chance of seeing this one colored?

IΒ΄ve been working in the colours, but so far I canΒ΄t find any scheme that satisfies me. What I tried looks either too dull or too flashy.(My poor painting skills doesnΒ΄t help, and IΒ΄m afraid of ruining the composition. Maybe in some days I will have something decent... unless I find someone more skilled willing to do the job soon )
And thanks!
