Great job!! What's TFV? What program did you make this with? I love the angle and depth to it and the very realistic feel

Keep up the great work!

hmm it looks nice but ehm .. did you use terragen ? if soy ou should work a little bit more on realism since this render indeed looks nice but for a terragen piece it lacks its realism

alooper21 [2005-07-01 21:35:36 +0000 UTC]

for such a realistic program, i don't find this landscape too realistic, wich is a big minus.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Armarant In reply to alooper21 [2005-07-02 04:29:06 +0000 UTC]

many artists dont use it for realism. 1/2 my gallery is more fantasyscapes, given i will prolly never meet duris's Pageviews. Just gotta keep in mind though, realism is almost impossible to render.

i was thinking that the lava looks too metalik, more like a melted metal, not melted rock.

the-man361 [2005-07-01 21:34:56 +0000 UTC]

i would poke you for using terragen, but seriously its nice and i like it so thats all that matters
to be honest terragen is an amazing program, very easy yet easily manipulated, perfect for backgrounds for stuff
but getting a nice looking terragen work by itself is a task indeed, i think you've managed to do it here, with enough postprocessing and enough terrain detail/realistic yet interesting landmarks to not generate some generic looking space, its a nice piece of work.
i dont like using terragen because it makes me feel as though i have somehow cheated (??) but when it looks this good, who is to complain?

I'm just starting out with Terragen, and I'm wondering how you did the mist. Also, I run my computer at 1200x1600, and I noticed from someone else that that's the original size -- is there anyway I could get a wallpaper from you in that size?

Many thanks for any help you can be on either count!

darkstar949 [2005-07-01 12:45:39 +0000 UTC]

Very nice work - two questions for you though. I noticed the size is 1280x960, was this a registered render that you shrunk down to that size (the largest that the unregistered can go), and is your height map generated, or is it painted from somewhere?

Nice work though, and congrats on the first Terragen DD that I have seen since I have been here.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

duris In reply to darkstar949 [2005-07-01 16:39:55 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I used registered version. It's rendered at 1600x1200 and then resized down.
The terrain is combine from three different terrains.

congrats on DD, but I'm a little confused about what exactly you wanted to depict right here... I mean I just don't know where is up and where's down of that landscape... I think it's because of that fog... but of course, details are awesome

You can actually see the layers in the rock and how they are twisted around! A lot of terragen stuff you see looks computer generated and flat as if made from nicely painted plastic but this one looks really natural. Nice work!
