Description Four high explosive shells, lathed.

As I started building two Medusae around MaxMini's "Siege Guns" that I bought at the local store (I could have made those guns myself, but that takes time I don't really have) I needed shells for the gun to fire.
I turned these out on my own lathe, from a 10mm aluminium bar, mostly just using guesstimates.
The first one lacked a drive band, but in a fit of realism I figured I needed something to grip the rifling of the gun, thus the narrow band around the back of the shells.
The shape of the shells is classic for large bore guns, maximizing explosive payload over accuracy or range.

I like it how the guns are actually thinly veiled Austrian WW1 Md.1911 30.5cm siege howitzers, immediately discernible by their recoil dampening mechanisms (here's one from a series I drew for a non-fiction book: [link] ), including the oiling ports on the barrel sleeve (the round bolt looking things on the barrel and below the recoil cylinders) but with interrupted screw breech mechanisms like the French de Bange cannons [link] ...

I also like how your shells turned out they're a pretty good match with what the Austro-Hungarians used in RL: [link]

Hah, didn't know that, I've been looking mostly at German guns. The company I bought the resin cast guns from is Czech I believe, so the Skoda guns are probably the closest they can see IRL.
It really is an a close copy.

Ah, if they're Czech, that explains why they chose a Skoda gun as inspiration, even though there isn't a single of this guns still extant in the Czech Republic and the only three surviving examples are at Rovereto in Italy, at the Belgrade Military Museum in Serbia and at the Military Museum in Bucharest, Romania.
But still, national pride is national pride I suppose.

You are way too good at making those shells.

Great job!

Unless you mean the gun itself of course, which was made by the Polish firm MaxMini. Check your local hobby centers if they can order from them.
I can and have made guns like that myself, but it is a lot of work.

Made them myself in my little machine shop
With any luck I can make MaxMini produce them as accessories to the gun they already make.
Could try making contact directly with Ylmahar too, just don't try to land. Payment in raw material accepted.

That was the general plan, indeed. You can see the nearly finished Medusae as the latest entry in my gallery.
Got an even bigger canon that I made myself that will be carried on a vehicle eventually too...
They have a page at maxmini.eu if you want to check them out.

How much to make some of those shells? I have the same exact gun you have but no shells.

About 7$ US a piece I think.. Won't make me any money, but should pay for the materials. Then there's shipping of course..
