Description Dwarven wizards are extremely rare. In my Nederantasie history, only a handfull of dwarven wizards have existed. But the dwarves have found another way to use magic in the form of rune-magic, which is practiced by the Rune Priests. So, they deserve a page of their own.

Long ago, in the Greywall Mountains that lies connected to the dwarven city of Mudan, four ancient dwarven wizards named Gorim, Qorta, Hakon and Hirin had sacrificed their magical powers into the mountain. The mountain now contains magical powers in the form of the stone which the mountain is made off. if a rune is carved into a stone, then the dwarf who possesed it would have magical powers. And so came the first Rune Priests.

Each rune stone has it's own use, which depends what kind of rune is carved on it. Each rune stone is also named after one of the dwarven wizards that had give up their powers to the mountain. These are the most important runes:
Gorim, Rune of Life: Rune priests that posses this rune can heal the wounded and the sick from injuries that can otherwise be fatal if they don't act quickly. Perfect for field medics.
Qorta, Rune of Death: With this rune, rune priests can cast spells that will harm people. Like throwing a fireball or holding people in a deadly grip. Perfect for combat and selfdefence.
Hakon, Rune of Strenght: A rune that can cast spells to make himself or a comrade much stronger.
Hirin, Rune of Protection: This rune is for spells to protect the rune priest or another person from harm.

There are also some lesser known runes. which had been created by other dwarf wizards trough the ages. To cast a spell you must first yell the rune's name in a chanting way while looking up and raising your hands to the sky. Example: "Qorta, Rune of Death!" and then point to person or object you wishes that spell to be cast on.

The Rune Priests have many roles in dwarven society. They have the role of priests to the gods, advisors to dwarven nobility, teachers and even field medics on the battlefield. The most important thing you must be to become a rune priest, is being a pious dwarf, because you are a priest afterall and runes won't work otherwise. Some rune priests wishes to fight side by side with his/her fellow dwarves. These rune priests are of noble birth and very pious, fighting with mighty warhammers and bring a huge encouragement to the fellow dwarves.

Most rune priests are Mountain Dwarves, simply because they invented rune magic. But in recent years, the Dark Dwarves had follow them in using it too.

in picturers here from left to right and above to below are:

My thanks, Missuny! They sure are important figures in dwarven society! And all the rune priest leaders are known to have metal masks on their helmets, as you can see.
