this is expertly done! the realism is staggering! although there is a consensus of portraying it with smaller ears... but with no soft tissue material, this is really up to an educated guess when it comes right down to it, and i firmly believe it's good to have a variety in reconstructions in cases like these! very well done!

You are right about the ears ,my first try out was indeed with smaller ears.
But I did not liked the looks of it somehow it was not matching.

My thoughts where that if they lived in a warmer climate why do they have such small ears.

very true. maybe not all prehistoric elephants had small ears! like i said, this is all left to educated guess, as we can't know how big their ears really were, but that's exactly why i enjoy reconstructions that explore different ideas, in cases like this, having more than one plausible reconstruction rids us of our blindspots and opens our eyes to multipple ways how these animals could have looked like. once again, you have done a really wonderful job here, i don't think i have ever seen a comparably convincing reconstruction of an extinct proboscidean, short of mammoths, which seem a bit overdone at this point. (no hate against mammoths, though! but they have been depicted so many times that there remains very little room for depicting them in new light. )

You are absolutely right and I did not take a mammoth just because everybody knows how they looked like.
I find it a challenge to let people see how diverse life already was at that moment.
So instead of taking the familiar ones , I tried to find some animalsΒ  that I like and are not so familiar to the big public.

Okay, the smilodon is an exception but that is because I like them.XD

of course, smilodon was an awesome creature, so i don't blame ya! if i could go to a smilodon safari, i totally would!
