Description
The subject of this painting is located across the bay from my home on Chemong Lake. I took the picture on which it is based last Autumn, just after they had lowered the water level in the lake for the winter. I was struck by how lonely this dock looked, hanging so far out of the water, surrounded only by the mist and the reeds.

I tried an experiment with this painting to try and highlight the misty feel. I left the sky and the water completely white, and used pencil to draw the reeds farthest to the right, the ones that are the most obscured by the fog.
