Description This map shows the Donbass region along the Russo-Ukrainian border in Eastern Europe. From 20 February 2014 to 21 March 2014, Russia invaded and illegally annexed back Crimea from Ukraine. On 7 April 2014, the DPR declared its independence from Ukraine. On 27 April 2014, the LPR declared its independence from Ukraine. The international community has not recognized the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics. The Donbass separatist states had covered one-third of the Donbass region during the Donbass war from 2014 to 2022. As of April 2022 by the time of the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, more than half of the region was under the control of Russia and the Donbass separatist states. On 30 September 2022, Russia annexed the Donbass, Zaporozhye, and Kherson regions. The international community has not recognized the Donbas as part of the Russian Federation.
