Description
my second incarnation of the four horsemen of the apocalypse, death. the lamp he carries is actually filled with luminescent souls but alas can't really be truly seen here, also, his face is half bald human and half skull topped off by huge crow wings!Related content

Holy sweet saints alive, this is hellaciously awesome! I really don't have the correct words to describe exactly why it is, but rest assured, it is. Instafave! And cheers to you!

that's so freakin' dark and scary (makes me love it), and at the same time, the pity for those harvested souls, and the humanity of that personification... looks like I've found myself a new fav

So the lamp the angel of death carries illuminates by luminescant souls? Death illuminates. More ironic than you thought.
The word luminesce has the same root as the word Lucifer. Lucifer is a Latin word made up of two words, lux (light; genitive lucis) and ferre (to bear, to bring), meaning "light-bearer".
You can Google for information about Lucifer, Satan and the personification of death being one and the same.
Lucifer is also a name for Venus, the morning star.
The word scientific word Luciferin has its origins in its latin etymology. Luciferin: any of various organic substances in luminescent organisms (as fireflies) or chemicals (such as the adhesive on duct tape) that upon oxidation produce a virtually heatless light. Yes, some duct tapes glow very slightly just after pulling them off the dispenser, try it at home in the dark kids!
I would imagine all words to do with producing light with their root in "luminesce" have their etymolgy in "Lucifer", including the one you used, "luminescant".
As to how Christians came to give Satan the name Lucifer? Well, I had to use google for this one. The belief that it was the proper name of Satan began with its used in Bible to translate Gk. Phosphoros, which translates Heb. Helel ben Shahar in Isaiah xiv.12 -- "How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning!" [K.J.V.] The verse was interpreted by Christians as a reference to "Satan," because of the mention of a fall from Heaven, even though it is literally a reference to the King of Babylon (cf. Isaiah xiv.4). [link]
I don't know how you could possibly incorporate this into the image description and keep things concise and interesting, but I read the image description, and just couldnt resist letting you know that luminance and Lucifer have the same root.
On a side note, it interests me how so many Christians believe Beelzebub is the same as Satan, yet he is a completely different entity according to everything from the Bible to Paradise Lost . [link]
Its amazing how people are so eager to believe so many misconceptions, or mythconceptions that work their way into common knowledge
Suddenly I'm reminded of how I snapped in literature when we were discussing Hecate in Macbeth.
I admire how true to the four horsemen myth you are while doing things your way. I also like Red/War I can't help but link imperialist Japan, evil and war in my mind. Good job!
The crows wings on death, especialy the feathers at the top of the garment remind me of Medivh . I always like an interesting take on angel's wings.
Whoa, nearly 400 words. Hope that wasn't too much for you.
I had far too much fun researching and writing that.

Curiously enough, isn't the angel of death one God's minions? and if thats true, then is death really all that bad? Perhaps it's just one of the steps of perfection. Perhaps it's a necesary thing for God to teach the thing's we are meant to learn.

This is incredible the wings are so elegant yet very belonging to him. What he reminds me is kinda of a monk which is pretty cool considering how they are in ways opposites. Very different and refreshing. Wonderful piece indeed

Impressive job.
A recommendation for you:
Read the Incarnations of Immortality series by Piers Anthony, it'll alter your perception of all of the Incarnations of Immortality, and they're incredible books.

O_o The white wing seems to be almost transparent whereas the black wing is solid and....eh....impenetrable. o.o And kinda whispy at the ends. : D And the cloud effect!
