Story:
Cub – As the only cub of Mufasa and Sarabi, Simba was destined to be king, and he knew it. Even when his parents made sure to not overly spoil him, and to teach him to be humble and good, he still let his role and future get to his head, sometimes bragging about becoming king and being able to someday do what he wanted without repercussions. But he was still a friendly and kind cub, especially when it came to his best friend, Nala. He tended to get jealous easily, but he never went down the path of greed and possessiveness. He looked up to his father, and aspired to be just as good a king as him, even if his pawprints seemed too big to fill in. He also loved his uncle, Scar, despite how weird he could be, and strove to make him just as proud.

Adolescent – Following his father's death, and his subsequent exile, Simba became more subdued. He also became very careful of how he treated others, knowing they could be easily taken away before your eyes. His old personality did remain, just not as strong as it once was. Though he never hunted in Timon and Pumbaa's presence, he learned how to, as well as fight, from a lion who called himself Tanglemane. While he did tell the old lion his name, he kept the rest of his past secret so as not to invite questions. He was nearly fully-grown when Tanglemane passed. But he died peacefully, with Simba right beside him; it almost felt like he was given a second change to say goodbye to a father figure, even if he wasn't Mufasa.

Adult – Even after reclaiming his throne, Simba retained some of the carefree personality he got in the jungle with Timon and Pumbaa. But he also never truly healed from his cubhood traumas. While he was just as good a king as Mufasa, he still made mistakes, mostly resulting from his paranoia. For instance, he briefly banished the wildebeests for their role in his father's death, despite Scar using them as a pawn to his plan. And he exiled every lioness who followed or supported Scar, regardless of where they came from or why they followed him. While he was convinced to let the wildebeests back into the Pride Lands, he didn't relent when it came to Scar's followers, which came to be known as the Outsiders, especially after Sarabi's murder. After his oldest son and mother-in-law disappeared, he became very overprotective of Kiara, as she was the next in line for the throne, reminding her of her place in the Circle of Life; he wasn't nearly as protective of Kiongozi, who would become leader of his own lion guard, but he did keep a close eye on him. It was hard for him to not forever see her as his innocent little cub, causing a small rift between them, and him to disregard her decisions and opinions that he himself didn't agree with. But even though it was hard, he was able to admit when he was wrong, and tried to do better.

I think this version of Simba came out MUCH better than the previous one; I especially like how the mane came out. Quite scruffy, but I think it adds to the character. I like to imagine that Simba didn't have a lot of fur as a cub (like how Mufasa and Scar's head fur mimicked their future mane styles) but it cropped up almost overnight as he grew into his adolescent years. Kind of like this old picture on here, where Malka, Tojo, and Chumvi were laughing at Simba for not having as much head hair as they did, and then shows them all as adults, with Simba having the biggest mane of them all XD Plus, with how smooth Mufasa's mane was, it makes Simba just a bit more different from his father.

Speaking of, I thought the old version of Simba's colors were a bit too orange for my taste; almost identical to Mufasa. So I tweaked them so they were a bit more yellow, especially since Simba was very yellow as a cub. And as before, I kept his ear rims from when he was a cub. I know people headcanon them disappearing, but I prefer him to have them, especially since they'd be from Sarabi.

I went a little deeper into Simba's years in the jungle. Everyone and their hyena knows how bizarre it is that a lion, who supposedly only ate bugs, became a big, strong lion. He might have also eaten fish, true, but that doesn't account for him being able to fight Scar as well as he could. I decided that Tanglemane, a character in a magazine story, was the one who taught Simba to hunt and fight. I forget who it was, but someone on here pointed out that with Timon stating they could use Simba as a bodyguard, it meant that they weren't the only inhabitants of the jungle, and had probably ran into a fair share of predators. In the story, Simba mentioned a couple of times that Tanglemane reminded him of Mufasa, so I figured that he would have bonded with the older lion (little did he know that he was actually his future father-in-law XD)
