I am refusing to use the rebranded name because, I'm annoyed about the rebrand. I'm annoyed about your direction, your lack of focus in key areas and your lack of communication. I said I'd never be a bitter former staff member, but it seems that I am.

Last year you spent a lot of money on a rebrand, this year you've cut 50% of your work force, entire departments have been decimated and peoples lives have been thrown upside down without notice. But you never really communicated to anyone why. You still don't, you're not telling the community what's happening and that's only going to hurt you. People will see that helpdesk tickets take longer to get a response, people see that lots of people are no longer staff and you're not letting them know why. You know that people have a belief that the site is dying, you're only furthering it right now. How much of a better state would the site be in if the rebrand hadn't happened? Would I and the rest of the people that lost our jobs without notice still be employed here? Where would we be if you had communicated that there was an issue to staff sooner? What about if it had been communicated to the community as a whole?

For too long you've been committing the cardinal sin when running a community, you've been ignoring the community. You've given them features that weren't asked for and left features that were wanted underdeveloped. You know this because it's been raised many times, I had to fight so hard to get simple bugs fixed with chats. If you'd treated it properly it could have been a huge community point. Same with groups and portfolios.Β All the money that's been spent on various projects that never saw the full light of day or were never utilised properly. How would things have been different if it had been handled better?

spyed tell people what's happening because people deserve to know. Your staff deserve to know. The people that have thought this was their HOME for years deserve to know. I have been here 12 years and aside from a few months I've logged on virtually everyday. I've met some of my best friends through this site, I've met some people that I was crazily in love with, one that I nearly married, one that I traveled across the world to be with for a summer and yet another that I was set on spending the next 2 years commuting to see. But coming here these last 3 months has been like going to my old home as it's being demolished. I don't have any desire to browse art, to comment on works that show up in my message centre or even to chat with people on dAmn.

spyed I have defended you for years, said you had the communities best interests at heart, that you knew what to do, but right now I can't do it man. I don't know if this is coming from you or pressure from those around you, but this is not the deviantART I joined, it's not the one I volunteered for multiple times or the one I worked for for nearly 4 years. And I hate that.

Ultimately losing my job here hurt me both financially and personally, for reasons I don't want to go in to. I lost a lot when you let me go. But I've found out that I was unhappy when I was here, so I am grateful that I was let go in a way, because now I have a job where I am happy, I'm not stressed, I don't feel sick all the time and I sleep easily at night. I see people everyday, I talk to my colleagues face to face, I can touch them, hug them, sit and eat with them. I never realised how much I'd missed that.

Angelo, please do the right thing for this community before it's too late, before you've lost everyone that has passion for the site and for the art. Before you've lost your vision completely, before you've lost your community, before we've all lost our home.

I missed the old Deviantart. I've been a member for 5 years but I don't like the new changes like Core Membership, new logo, and the Report Deviations not working. But I hate the fact that staff members ignore the pedophiles, art thieves, perverted photographers, trolls, cyberbullying, and nasty fetishes.

Very well put. Β There is nothing worse than to lose ones way and/or vision when it comes to having created a community devoted to the creation and exhibition of art in all its forms. Β The original DA was fun and very user friendly. Β Today's version is a pale shade of the former. Β It is a shame that one can be pressured into deviating from an original path that held a true vision and direction in which the art community as a whole would have joined hands in being part of a creation that benefited us all. Β If the powers that be at DA are listening, then they should take the necessary steps to get this site back on its original path.

I'm really happy to see a former staff member be on board with this as well, since it kinda gets the point across to people better.Β
The dA community has been falling apart for so long, and without the full support of the staff to help with the problems, it seems like hope is lost. Hell, you can barely put in a report for blatant theft anymore without someone jumping to the conclusion that "it's not theft if it's digital", that's just silly.

Every artist has issues with this, and it's terrible to see problems like that, bugs with comments and profiles, and even the entirety of the "core" update.

More power to you for this journal, I'm glad someone had the gall to say it after being employed there, it makes a massive impact to see how it affected everyone involved.

I don't have all the answers when it comes to an issue like this and I can understand the mistakes this site makes sometimes but I'm not the one who puts all the blame on spyed himself. But on the other hand, it's not really my business to say "well that's your own fault for being against him" or whatnot. I don't know everything that goes behind the scenes but I don't want to make a big deal of things that aren't really the end of the world.

After all, we're all still alive here.

Since I know both sides of deviantart, yes, the biggest problem is both staff and users thinking they know what the biggest problem is.

Also your issues with realitysquared won't be his fault, because you're going to blame him for things he's told to do, policies that have been written by someone else or a law that you don't know about or understand.

Wait, I've been on dA for the last 3 years and the site's management is already going mindsick?

Capcom, Konami, and now deviantArt?

Why? Why is it so hard to be smart? To take good decisions that will benefit both sides? To apologize for one's mistakes and learn from them? Why?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Sh1nedown In reply to Coobalt-Dahonli-One [2017-11-06 00:28:04 +0000 UTC]

It's like the age-old question, "If you're so smart, why aren't you rich?"

Smart people can't think as small as "the bigger picture" (that wasn't a typo). They support the needs of the many (in this case, us artists) over the needs of the few (themselves).

That's usually good business sense, in fact, to not treat current/potential clients or customers as people instead of walking paychecks. But in business, there does come a point where you need to make a decision on which will sustain the few.

Aaaaaand that's where we all lose. The artists aren't the clients, they're the reason deviantArt exists -- and why its CEO even has a job in the first place. I'm the CEO of my own company, and I know darn well who really signs my checks.

Ads are useless these days, partly due to ad blockers and partly thanks to online ads unleashing massive malware on clickers. Nobody bothers anymore, and for good reason. This being said, there's always another way to generate revenue without trying to have it both ways.

When I first joined deviantArt in 2009, the site offered the ability to print and sell prints of artists' works, if the artist chose that option for the piece. I thought it was a great idea, one better than what RedBubble had offered.

As far as I can tell, nobody's been able to sell anything anymore. It's too easy to right-click, or for the artists to direct buyers to Patreon. So the management has been absolutely dropping the ball, by not only focusing on the money but trying to do it the easy way.

I've never seen a business succeed on inertia. If deviantArt does finally close up (or more likely get bought by another company, pennies on the dollar), I will miss the community that kept me focused on self-publishing graphic novels.

Companies come and go, so do CEOs.

But art is forever.

This is a very well written journal.

I hope the staff fixes this situation as well. I came here because I wanted to make others happy through artwork (which I do), but the staff is suddenly taking away what everyone loves.Β

Premium Membership, Point Raffles... even good artists who have done nothing to get banned for...Β
(Yet they don't ban the pedophiles, art thieves, etc.)

Especially Generosity.Β They have taken away generosity and they don't realize it.Β

I hope they do soon... If this keeps up, I don't know what I would do anymore. This website is the best website I've ever been on. (It's fun to be on, and it's about my passion, art.)

Well, I hope you have a pleasant day, dxd . I'm so sorry that they fired you. I wish you could be rehired and could help them realize how sad, angry, and furious it's making all the deviants because the staff are messing up the whole point of the website.

Again, have a nice day.
