Description
my first attempt at macro photography with my 18-55mm kit lens. taken in natural light on our sofa (the fibers!)i used the poor man's macro lens or the reverse lens technique and focused on my rosary ring (today's the beatification of Pope John Paul II, i thought it fitting)
basic tweaking of levels and curves on PS
i used my camera's Live View function, timer and L O T S of P A T I E N C E!

Yeah, looks hard due to the low light. It also gets confusing because you can't control the aperture of the lens...
The only reason why I don't recommend the technique is due to dust. Awesome photo nonetheless!

thank you!
yeah..i'm worried about dust entering the camera body and settling on the image sensor
but i won't mind damaging the kit lens... it was pretty much collecting dust in my cabinet anyway. talagang inaapi ang kit lens haha!

Well, it is a standard kit lens.
Generally, people don't use them. They but it and keep it as a back-up lens, then buy a real kit lens... like those 24-70mm F/2.8 primes or an 18-135mm F/3.5-5.6 which have more range.

i know...
ahhhh, i can't afford the canon 24-70mm. i'm looking for a great third party lens alternative @ f/2.8 or something similar.

I actually prefer more range than a F/2.8 kit lens; they're not only cheaper but usually offer sharper images. The only time you're really supposed to use F/2.8 is on low lighting... and if you want subject isolation, you're either supposed to use a long focal length or much wider aperture.
