Good focus, what camera did you use here?

If you just wanted the king in focus, you could have changed the angle a bit

Yeah, go lower (so that all the pieces are around the same height), then you can better isolate and focus on the king.

Ah, I see. You only have that + the 18-55mm F/3.5-5.6?

yes, i only have 2 lenses. the 50mm and the kit lens(ugh!)
i'm saving up for a great walk-around lens.
so mahaba pa ang time para ma-outgrow ko yung panget na kit lens. haha!

The best walk around lens for a Canon APS-C is the 18-135mm if you ask me.

Why not the 18-200/18-250? Because it is quite soft at the extremes (18 and 200/250). Better to have a dedicated telephoto lens than risk quality.

ahhh... i see. but i want a wide angle lens sana with a large enough aperture
it would be nice to have the 16-35mm f/2.8 L, pero suuuuuper mahal nya.

You're better off getting an 18-55mm F/2.8 since you're on an APS-C sensor for wide angle. If you want ultra-wide angle (UWA), get an 11-16mm F/2.8 (which is equivalent to 16-35mm F/2.8 on a fullframe sensor).

No offense, but I've been told (by a Canon user) that Canon's UWA and WA lenses aren't that good. Canon is more known for their telephoto lenses (all those white lenses you see in FIFA stadiums, etc - are all Canon).

Currently the best UWA lens (at least for fullframe cameras) is the Carl Ziess 16-35mm F/2.8 for the Sony Alphas. (Carl Zeiss started making lenses before Canon/Nikon, they have a much higher quality level that Canon's L lens).

My friend who uses a Canon 7D bought a Tokina (not sure if it's 2.8), but I know there's no stabilization. How bad the distortion is, I'm not sure either.

(Distortion is very subjective within the community. The best and expensive lenses have very little distortion while the lower quality ones have lots. The only time manufacturers really put distortion is if you buy a fisheye lens... but that "fisheye" effect ain't the real total fish eye effect - you need a fullframe camera for that).

She might sell it when the replacement to the Canon 5D Mk 2 comes out and she makes the switch from APS-C to FF.
