Description Okay here's Esmeralda from "Notre Dame de Paris" , the original story of the "Hunchback or Notre Dame"

I've been getting into to the story lately and I was inspired to draw Esmeralda. I left alot of white in the picture, but I thought I would see how it looked. I really liked her character, because she really was the most innocent of everyone.

For those who don't know the story aside from the Disney version, I'll explain:

Esmeralda was a beautiful gypsy girl who travelled with many other gypsies wishing to take refuge inside the cathedral of Notre Dame. She would dance to raise money and she was so beautiful that three different men and the gypsy king fell in love with her- The Captain of the police, a priest, and the hunchback in the clocktower. Esmeralda was for the most part oblivious to their rising obsession with her except for the captain who promised her he would marry her and take her away from this place. She was skeptical at first, but than he won her over and she was so happy to believe this man could give her a home.

He was lying of course, he already had a fiancee and only wanted Esmeralda as a one-night affair. The hunchback (Quesimodo) truly loved her and tried to tell her that the captain was up to no good, but she could not believe him.
The priest (Frollo) was crazy obsessed with her. He began to believe that if he couldn't have her no one could, and he tried to kill the captain because of Esmeralda's feelings for him. Of course Esmeralda was tried for the attempted murder because she had been with him when he was attacked and the priest came to her and told her he would get her out of jail if she became his mistress. She refused him and he was about to order the execution of her when Quesimodo came and set her free. He tried to save her by handing her off to the captain whom he believed would get her to safety but he was very wrong.
The captain's fiancee was extremely jealous of Esmeralda and told Phebous(the captain) that if he didn't kill Esmeralda she would leave him. So he secretly handed Esmeralda back to Frollo and she was hanged not knowing how he betrayed her. Quesimodo found out and killed the priest and then died next to Esmeralda crying over her body.

Nice story, no?
I felt bad for Esmeralda, she was beautiful, and she died for it.

Ne ne, a tip for you. When coloring your linearts on photoshop, duplicate the background layer as soon as you open the file, then delete the locked layer. Then create a new layer. move your background layer above it, and change the background layer to "multiply". Then you can color to your heart's content and not have to worry about covering or erasing your lines ^^

Or you could just ignore me and go to these links: This one... that one... another one... more of that one... am I annoying you yet...? Oh, clean your linearts with this .

It'd be horrible if I made a mistake on these links since I can't edit my comments...

//Oh dear...I know that is the original but I might prefer the Disney story...that just completely ruined my image of Phebous, and he was one of my fave Disney characters...poo you Dani T_T//

The drawing is great as usual, body proportions all right and a great sense of style, you have ^^. Love the colorful bg, too! Looks like gypsy colors to me! And you know, you're getting alot better at coloring! The shading on her skin looks excellent, just remember that it's shading+highlights like those cylinders on those stupid shading sheets we had to do in Drawing and Painting 1....

But the whiteness...I dunno girl, it looks like you were too lazy and didn't bother to clean up your drawing before coloring it ...It looks fine on the hair, but at other places....ARGH it bothers me I'm sorry ;;

And hey don't saying anything about me being too tough on you here, you can be tough on my drawings anytime you want y'know

*___*___*___*___*___*

Btw I just came back from work...when you gonna start work Dani T_T? Then I could pop in where you work and go "Hey girl! Watcha up to!" and your boss will be all "NO SOLICITING!" and it'd be funny ^^! Neways if you're ever hungry or just bored stop by at KFC on London Rd and say hi to me will ya ? 4-10 pm work I! Okay done with my super long comment, I'm going to bed, nighty night! Oyasumi nasai! *peels off her gravy and butter covered, soaking wet uniform and sighs in relief, and picks up a book to read*

Hi female! Yeah of course I'll come see you! I just got home about an hour ago so that's why I took so long to respond to you.

Umm about the drawing, you're right on the dot. I'm not sure if I like the white either, I just thought I would see how it turned out. I think I might change it. hmmm... Once I stop being lazy I suppose ^_^

But yeah! We've gotta talk about hanging out! When are you free? Just anyday before 4:00?

The Hunchback of Notre Dame was such a sad tale. ;___;

But you made Esmeralda out to be absolutely stunning, as she was depicted in the story. She's lookin' marvelous; job well done, luv. ^^

What a beautiful storyline. I was not too familiar with that side of the story, you told it very precisely. The picture is great, the white make it look like moonlight striking down upon her. Very nice.

Aww thank you! Yeah, I was sort of wondering about the white. I just thought I'd try it and see how it turned out. Thanks!

Thats alright, experimentation is one of the most prized tools of an artist. Inwhich I most certainly classify you. You are an excellent drawer, I especially like style used in your pictures "jumper's face", "Concubine", and "Pretty pixie". I think there is one or two I have not written down, but you get the idea. More pictures like them would be excellent! Not that I don't like your other pictures, I think their WONDERFUL, but it's just something about thoses types of drawings that I love.

Thank you! I know what you're getting at. You like my penciled drawings more. I do too. It's easier to see my original lines unlike coloring where everything turns into kinda a solid thing... I'll make some more drawings like that ^_^ Thank you so much for your comments, you're so nice! I have to go now or I'd talk some more, but much love and I'll see you in a week!
