Description
Pterodaustro, a filter feeding pterosaur. A flock in the morning fog of a shallow lake.Pterodaustro had the most elongate teeth, relative to their width of all tetrapods in its lower jaw. In its upper jaw it had tiny teeth with no roots and ossicles, morphologically reminicent of the papillae belonging to flamingos. It is therefore more likely this pterosaur was specially adapted to filter, as opposed to sifting, like Gnathosaurus. Pterodaustro's unique adaptation don't seem to have effected its ability to fly. It seems to have lived in large numbers in the area that is now argentina, in the Lower Cretaceous.
