Description The species Ornithocephalus rhamphastinus, recently Germanodactylus rhamphastinus has been crying out for a new name ever since it was discovered the headcrests that "Germanodactylus" species shared were evolutionary clingers-on. A recent publication finds that while the two "Germanodactylus" species are closely related, they are part of an evolutionary continuum and they deserve separate genus names to reflect this relationship. As a result, the old pterosaur - first described in 1851 - has received a new name, Altmuehlopterus. sp.lyellcollection.org/content…

Thanks for supporting me. I had been on a break and only found all of your comments when I came on here very recently.

Why don't they take Daitingopterus?

The rules of naming genera and species (the ICZN) say that Daitingopterus is unavailable. But the reason for it needing a new genus name is sound, so it has been named after the river Altmuehl that flows past Daiting and Moernsheim.
